Summary

The Social Media Specialist’s responsibility is to assist with the tactical and day to day operations of social media and communications initiatives across multiple social media accounts. Work involves communication and coordination with various departments and organizations. Independent judgment and initiative are exercised within established guidelines; performance evaluated on the basis of discussions and work products. Tasks require a strong attention to detail, excellent digital customer service skills and ability to work under tight deadlines. Must be able to work flexible schedules. On call 24/7/365. Reports to the Social Media Manager. 

General Information:

  • Standard office hours apply; however, occasionally non-traditional work hours are necessary to accomplish projects, and subject to emergency calls back to work. 
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for and maintain a city driving permit.
  • Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Day to day assistance with social media monitoring, planning, strategy, content creation, posting and issue spotting. Helps conceive, create, execute and manage written and visual social content aligned with the airport brand, campaign, strategy or project. 
  • Collaborate and work closely with CLT’s Social Media Manager. 
  • Maintain an understanding of social media best practices and strategy to align activity with trends.
  • Help execute creative content development and influencer outreach, conversation management, user engagement and analytics reporting.
  • Analyze campaign metrics to guide content creation and identify needed changes or enhancements to support social media strategy. Provide monthly reports for leadership and team.
  • Assist with monitoring customer inquiries and responses (nights, weekends and holidays).
  • Write and assist in implementing social media campaigns for various needs, including media events, special projects and video production.
  • Assist with content writing for social media platforms and video scriptwriting.
  • Assist with Aviation and tenant events. 
  • Work with various Aviation Department workgroups.
  • Create graphics and motion graphics with stats and CLT info.
  • Send bi-weekly or monthly reports of comments on social.
  • Help with ideation and filming of reels.

Preferred Qualification

High School graduate or equivalent and five years relevant experience, or Associate’s Degree and three years experience. Relevant experience in public relations, social media content development, marketing, communications and experience actively managing the tactical and day-to-day operations of social media across multiple accounts.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (marketing, public relations/public affairs, communications, government and constituent relations or related field). Media relations, digital communications and public speaking experience a plus. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (marketing, public relations/public affairs, communications, government and constituent relations or related field) preferred. 

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent and five years relevant experience.

Or

Associate's Degree and three years relevant experience.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
