About the Team:

At CookUnity, the Brand Marketing team is responsible for developing and executing world-class marketing activations and experiences that drive brand awareness and earn loyalty beyond reason. This team sets the vision and strategy for the brand and brings it to life with strategic rigor, creative excellence, and cultural relevance. Through insight-inspired, data-informed brand storytelling and experiences, CookUnity’s Brand Marketing team will build a category-defining brand loved by an entire generation of foodies.

The role:

CookUnity is seeking an experienced, highly technical photographer to lead and execute our visual merchandising photography focused on producing category leading food imagery that is as effective as it is differentiated. You will work closely with partners in marketing, production, portfolio, and our community of world-class chefs to accelerate and elevate our in-house food photography operation. As our sole in-house photographer you will be responsible for bringing our incredible chef-crafted food to life visually and your work will be central to the brand experience of every user. As such, this role will be an important creative leader in bringing our brand to life and essential to our continued success. This role will report to CookUnity’s Creative Director and will be based in Brooklyn, NY.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to lead and scale photography for an array of notable and exciting professional chefs
  • Elevate CookUnity’s photography visuals and process though inspired, blue-sky thinking while remaining diligent in executing established standards with diligence and precision.
  • Build, execute, and maintain an impactful category-creating visual merchandising approach to a point of excellence and differentiation.
  • Create inspiring buzz-worthy food images that elicit an emotional response from viewers and build equity in the CookUnity brand as a beacon of food excellence.
  • Operate autonomously and swiftly, leveraging the visual guidelines provided to deliver consistently excellent results.
  • Play an integral role in the visual storytelling of our products and brand as a key cross functional partner across Brand, Growth Marketing, and Portfolio teams.
  • Remain highly engaged and hands-on in all aspects of the photography workflow.
  • Be nimble, versatile and able to pivot between meal images, product photography, portraits, and any other brand marketing materials as needed.
  • Be comfortable performing light Photoshop retouching on meal images, as needed.
  • Be fluid in lighting techniques and deftly pivot to different setups as necessary.
  • Elevate video footage for organic & paid social as needed, and as time allows.
  • Own the full delivery of final assets including uploading edited images to internal systems, ensure naming conventions are adhered to, etc.
  • Oversee and maintain the photography assets in the company content library

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of photography experience shooting either full-time or freelance in the food industry, either for a consumer brand or an editorial food company.
  • An eye and instinct for Art Direction beyond basic photo shooting with some on-set experience doing “light” or “basic” prop styling to deliver elevated food aesthetic.
  • Ability to oversee, take care of and troubleshoot photo equipment and technology issues as they arise.
  • Previous experience working with Chefs/Restaurants is a bonus.
  • Degree in Photography, Design, Visual/Fine Arts, or related studies.
  • Proven expertise in a high-volume, high-paced environment, previous experience with a consumer startup or high growth company is a bonus.
  • Flexible in response to shifting business priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Stellar communication, strong organizational and time management skills.
  • A love of, and an appreciation for delicious food!

Compensation

All final pay rates will be determined by candidates experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.

Pay Range for this position

$90,000—$100,000 USD
