Head of the Global Clinical Immunology (GCI) Molecular Platform - Vaccines

Job Overview:

The Head of GCI Molecular Platform directs several laboratories responsible for the development, qualification, validation, and execution of molecular assays required to support Sanofi Vaccines clinical trials performed by R&D New Vaccines (NV) and by Global Medical Affairs (GMA).

This position will report to the Head of Global Clinical Immunology and will be based in Swiftwater, PA.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategy for molecular capabilities in GCI including leading a team that will develop, validate, and execute on novel molecular clinical assays to support Vaccine clinical end points.
  • Build and establish new molecular competencies across the organization.
  • Ability to efficiently develop and transfer the analyses onto automated platforms
  • Harmonize and liaise with upstream units of early stage immunology and clinical experimental immunology to ensure transition of analyses into the global clinical immunology assay portfolio.
  • Work closely with global project teams and immunology team leads
  • Drive continuous improvement and advancement of techniques and technologies for the assessment of novel vaccine candidates at Sanofi Vaccines R&D
  • Serve as a representative on project, process, and investigation teams and responsible to plan, organize, and resource the platform appropriately 
  • Effectively supervise, train, motivate, and empower direct reports to perform assigned tasks while ensuring applicable compliance and regulatory agency standards are met
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and demonstrate outstanding scientific rigor

Management of Key Interfaces:

  • Interact and liaise within the other platform leads and GI department heads and scientists to ensure end-to-end GI communication is maintained

Essential Attributes:

  • Recognized expert in state of the art molecular techniques such as next generation sequencing, ddPCR, qRT-PCR, arrays, scRNAseq/CITEseq, the qualification/validation of such assays as well as their downstream analyses and reporting.
  • Ability to interact with people of differing cultural backgrounds and skills to achieve scientific and operational excellence
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to scientific excellence and innovation
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills to ensure completion of targets and foster respect in the workplace
  • Strong leadership that ensures the cross-group collaboration to achieve Sanofi R&D goals
  • Guarantee the growth by developing leadership skills of direct reports
  • In close collaboration with the GI department heads, identify and grow the talent pool for future GCI team members and make recommendations on high potential candidates

Preferred Qualification:

  • Masters degree in in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or a related discipline; PhD strongly preferred
  • 7+ years experience working in a regulated laboratory as a research scientist in academia and/or industry; 10+ years experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the development of new bioanalytical characterization methods for vaccines.
  • Familiar with a broad range of molecular instrumentation and techniques. 
  • Familiar with immunogenicity assays.
  • Proven leadership and managerial experience in multi-functional and matrixed teams
  • Specific Quality and Regulatory experience in vaccine Research and Development
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing regulations
  • Proven leadership, verbal and written communication, organizational and team management skills
  • Proven ability to develop and implement new procedures/processes
