CAD Designer

Reports to

Senior Director, Women’s Design Concepts

Overview

The CAD Designer must have experience and knowledge creating jewelry pieces of basic difficulty levels in Rhino. Responsible for execution of design concepts following aesthetic objectives as defined by the Senior Director.

Responsibilities

  • Executes design development in CAD with continual supervision from drawings, ideas, and waxes to support the design process.
  • Evaluates designs as they develop and provides suggestions for form, details, and continuity of collections. Become knowledgeable of processes and aesthetics through training.
  • Able to interpret verbal direction to views not provided in renderings.
  • Creates basic forms in CAD to support efficient prototyping for the team.
  • Provides input on timelines to completion; translates design concepts into a physical piece within established project time frame. 
  • Works collaboratively with designers, model makers, jewelers, and CAD team to execute designs.
  • Clearly communicates concepts and design details of finished CADs to design managers.
  • Assists in rapid prototyping processes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-3 years of CAD experience specific to jewelry.
  • Must have knowledge of basic jewelry construction as well as precious metal properties.
  • Must be proficient in creating solid, workable polysurface files.
  • Must have basic working knowledge of mechanisms such as hinges and clasps to inform efficient design development.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping machines are a plus.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Rhino CAD software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Standard office equipment.
  • Experience with 3-D Coat or comparable sculpting software is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret design renderings
  • Creative aesthetic in keeping with that of the David Yurman brand.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to work in a team environment.

Education

Four year BA or BS degree in Design with an emphasis in 3-D Jewelry Design preferred or the equivalent in Jewelry Industry work experience.

Location

5 days in office- Tribeca, NY

Estimated Base Pay: $85,000-$95,000

Base pay is one component of David Yurman’s total compensation package, which may also include the following for eligible employees: access to healthcare benefits, 401(k) plan, bonus, employee discounts, Summer Fridays (corporate roles), generous paid time off, sick time, and more.
