Job Description

As GM of Manulife Indonesia Sharia, the incumbent provides overall leadership in Indonesia sharia business at strategic and operational levels which include business development, sales production and profit earnings for individual line of business with the aim to maximize net income and the return on equity for the shareholders of the company. The incumbent also needs to drive employee engagement to ensure the sustainability of the franchise in Indonesia.

The role also envisages evaluation and assessment of alternative approaches to problems under the policy guidance of overall company strategies and tactics, and also recommend and implement solutions to critical business problems. The incumbent will set clear objectives for division/department heads who are responsible for implementation of business processes on a day-to-day basis.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide leadership and vision to the organization by assisting the Board and staff with the development of long term and annual plans, and with the evaluation and reporting of progress on plans.

2. Grow the business by increasing market share through managing existing distribution channels and develop new alternative distribution channels to meet sales production targets. This also includes growing the size of the Agency force and developing existing and any new partnerships in Bancassurance, Pension, as well as other alternative channels.

3. Develop and assess business development opportunities as well as strategies and business plans to meet sales targets, headcounts, production, persistency, expense ratio and profit objectives targets

4. Provide leadership and direction to agents and staff through effective communication and fostering the desired culture to achieve company goals and objectives, ensuring current and future organizational capabilities.

5. Engage and develop staff to embrace the agreed Manulife culture and way of doing business whilst promoting teamwork and planning current and future organization capabilities. This also includes maintaining and improving the framework to strengthen engagement, motivating staff and distribution, as well as improving retention strategy of critical bench strengths to ensure business sustainability.

6. Identify and recommend appropriate human resources to meet business needs in a cost-efficient manner.

7. Ensure company’s external relation, communication and positive image with the local government, regulators, industry and media. Promote and build credibility of Manulife Sharia as the most reputable, professional and trusted Sharia insurance company in Indonesia.

8. Oversight effective operational and business risk and ensure these risks are being monitored and managed at the most appropriate manner.

9. Ensure appropriate and effective internal controls and management information systems are in place; to enable the company to conduct its activities in compliance with local regulations, both lawfully and ethically 

10. Ensure that the Company maintains high standards of corporate citizenship and social responsibility wherever it does business. 

11. Accountable for Implementing and maintaining regional as well as local best practices in line with general company strategy and market trends

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies/Education

  • Master Degree in statistic, marketing, management or economy.
  • Hold professional qualification in Sharia Insurance is preferable.
  • Proven success in managing an organization, broad function/line of business accountable for managing top and bottom line.
  • Minimum 15 years of overall experience in insurance with ever-increasing job responsibilities. At least 10 years of management experience.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a global environment.
  • Understand Indonesian culture and market. Preferably can speak Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Good influence and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and growing Agency force and/or alternative distribution channel.
  • Demonstrate ability to build and maintain good relationship with regulators, industry, and media.
