We are hiring an experienced engineering leader to help deliver new critical end-user facing account management experiences, which will revolutionize how end users interact with and manage their relationship with Microsoft. You’ll be a technical Engineering Manager joining a highly talented, collaborative and motivated team. You'll help set technical direction while being hands-on in delivering high-scale, highly-available, and profoundly delightful modern user experiences.

A successful candidate will own establishing the vision and charter of the Account experiences team, developing operational processes and business rhythm that coordinates delivery of scenarios across Windows, Office, Identity and several other key Microsoft services. You will partner with a diverse set of managers across the globe and our team to identify and evaluate the engineering projects which will enable us to accelerate time to market and innovation. You will own the engineering strategy, schedule and accountabilities for delivering key pieces of Windows and our Services for both our new and existing products. 

As an experienced engineering manager for Account Experiences, you will build client, services to support a great single sign on experience for our customers. You will be a strong people manager who is committed to creating clarity, generating energy, and delivering success. As a people manager, you will deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring. You will provide direction to the team through breaking down service specs and architecture, and work across multiple disciplines to make implementation decisions. In your role you will work with peers across program management and software engineering to launch new experiences that integrate with existing systems. Additionally, your role will encompass

  • Strategic leadership: Demonstrate thought leadership and curiosity to ensure the technologies you own are contributing to achieving the key business and health goals (as measured by key metrics).
  • Planning and Execution: Ability to think holistically and strategically. Leverage understanding of engineering rhythm so that the team operates at a high level, knowledge is shared appropriately, and decision making happens at the right levels on the team. Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage complex technical products.
  • Coordination and Collaboration: The work you own is part of a larger collection of value requiring deep partnering and collaboration with the other leaders to ensure strategic objectives are met. You have a proven ability to work closely with others to achieve a common end, and to influence those across the management spectrum.
  • Communication: Able to conduct insightful, multi-faceted conversations with senior business and technical decision makers inside and outside Microsoft. Conceptualize complex ideas quickly and convey those thoughts to others in a clear, and effective manner.

  • 12+ years of related product development experience
  • Proven competency in organizational agility, cross-team collaboration, drive for results, and written and verbal communications
  • Experience building software products with diverse engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Track record of building high functioning teams, including recruiting and retaining diverse talent base
  • Exceptional teamwork and values that foster a positive team culture
  • Experience in collaborating with teams across different time zones and geographies
  • Experience driving efforts across product groups and business units
  • Strong project management and people management skills
  • Experience in leading and coaching teams of software engineers; providing expert guidance, hands-on assistance, best practices, and training
  • Strong and applied knowledge of object-oriented programming languages such as C#
  • Strong and applied knowledge of service infrastructure, frameworks, and technologies such as Azure Cloud Services, Azure Service Fabric, ASP.NET Core 2, .Net Framework, NuGet packages, and Git
  • Knowledge of common services design patterns and application development best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to ramp up on both new and legacy technologies
  • Ability to modernize and evolve components used by millions without service interruption
  • Experience in working within an agile software development team, leveraging experimentation and prototyping, while continuing to measure and iterate
  • Proven ability to work through the full DevOps lifecycle from initial design to final product to live site support
  • Proven fundamental understanding of how to deliver end-to-end scenarios with security, reliability, and engineering quality in mind
  • Experience in mentoring less experienced engineers and helping to set a positive team culture
  • Ability to learn and work effectively in a highly ambiguous, rapidly evolving environment

Skills preferred 

  • Proficiency in RESTful web services technologies, microservices and large scale distributed systems
  • Proficiency in Cloud data storage systems and patterns
  • Knowledge of the latest data storage, analysis, and visualization systems (CosmosDB, PowerBI)
  • Knowledge of specific technologies such as Azure Cloud Services, Azure Service Fabric, ASP.NET Core 2, .Net Framework, NuGet packages, Git, Service Bus, Event Hub, Data Factory, Tables/Queues/Blobs, SQL, Key Vault, Application Insights nice to have 
  • Experience of engaging with customers and the community in order to influence technical decision-making is preferred
