The role

As a Network System Lead Architect, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Babcock have been awarded the contract to manage and develop the UK MOD satellite network, Skynet. As part of this an extensive modernisation programme is taking place. This role will lead the team to maintain the current Network Management System for the communications network and assist in development and deployment of the architecture to modernise and enhance the system. A background in Telecoms network management and understand of current products and methodologies is essential, and any knowledge of satellite operations would be an advantage.

Day to day, you’ll be responsible for specifying new Network Management Systems requirements with input from users, working with key suppliers to develop and implement a new management system for the UK Skynet network, and test and commissioning of the installed system.

Essential experience of the Network System Lead Architect:

  • Proven experience of the design and operation of telecom network management systems
  • Demonstratable experience in the defence or telecommunication industry
  • Understanding of change and configuration control process in the context of the Engineering Design Lifecycle
  • Be conversant with the standards relating to the Systems Engineering discipline (e.g. ISO/IEC/IEEE15288)

Qualifications for the Network Management System Architect:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.

Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
