Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Digital Team’s main responsibilities are for several consumer-facing websites (including frieze.com), our iOS and Android Fair and Member Benefits mobile application, the company’s web-based CRM application, our Membership platform and our Online Viewing Room. We are also responsible for building and maintaining a suite of B2B fair management web applications, including our fair timeslot booking and ticketing products.

The Full Stack Developer is a core member of the Digital Team, reporting to the Senior Developer and working alongside other Developers, Product and Project management, and the Data and Insights team also within the directorate. You will be helping us innovate and drive change, finding and architecting business-critical digital and technical solutions for all areas of the business.

Whilst we are part of a large global company, Frieze’s Digital team are a small, agile, multi-disciplined technical team who get excited by difficult challenges and learning new things in response to the continually changing needs of the business.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Creating stable, scalable and flexible digital products across all business units in a wide range of technologies, as well as maintaining and iteratively improving our existing infrastructure
  • Working in a fast-paced, agile environment, managed by our Digital Product Manager and Digital Programme Manager
  • Helping to maintain and improve our development and hosting platforms, processes and pipelines
  • Researching and experimenting with new technologies and products, with the goal to always seek new and better ways to solve our problems

The role is based in Central London, however the role supports flexibility in remote working from home if desired, with a requirement to be in the office at least twice a week for team meetings and collaborative sessions.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Strong real-world experience developing, hosting and maintaining websites and building mobile applications using a wide range of modern and standard frameworks and approaches
  • A portfolio of work or previous projects which demonstrate the required skills and abilities
  • Experience in collaborating with 3rd party web development agencies and contract developers and designers

Skills and Abilities

Mandatory 

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience in a range of web technologies, specifically React.js, Next.js, Node.js and related tools and ecosystems
  • Exposure to iOS and Android mobile app development and deployment in React Native
  • Knowledge of various databases technologies, such as MongoDB, MySQL and Postgres
  • Good experience of building and consuming APIs
  • Strong semantic HTML, JavaScript and CSS skills
  • Experience in configuring cloud-based hosting environments such as AWS or Heroku or similar
  • Firm grasp of version control concepts and best practices, such as Git
  • Ability and experience in troubleshooting complex applications and integrations

Desirable

  • A knowledge of PHP and PHP-based CMSs (e.g. Drupal) or frameworks (e.g. Symfony or Laravel) is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies and best practices
  • Experience in design processes using tools such as Figma or similar
  • Ability to write concise technical documentation
  • An appreciation of what makes a good, accessible UI/UX and an ability to implement it
  • Good understanding of traditional web hosting technologies (databases, web servers, etc)
  • A good knowledge and appreciation of the command line

  • Experience working in a fast-paced agile environment, with an adaptable, pragmatic and collaborative attitude to work where team performance and the right outcome for the business are paramount
  • A passion for quality, a deep curiosity about everything and a natural attention to every detail

  • Positive and energetic, comfortable with the occasionally demanding challenges of putting together live events where time pressures are critical
