Senior Director, Research (GHRP Research Lead and Key Initiative Leader)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Director, Research to lead Gartner Human Resources Practice’s research portfolio for HR Business Partners (HRBPs). You will monitor and improve health of the portfolio and ensure all research insights align to HRBPs’ priorities. You will create and manage the content plan, oversee the health and quality of research, and generate actionable business ideas on Key Initiatives (KIs)/topics for HRBPs. These KIs/topics include (not limited to) organization design and change management, talent and performance effectiveness and employee experience. Gartner's research on these topics is often cited in major news outlets including Forbes, Harvard Business Review, The Washington Post, and The Economist, allowing our firm to extend our impact even further.

How You Will Make an Impact at Gartner:

You will collaborate closely with a team of researchers to identify, produce, and manage research that solves complex business challenges on a global scale. As a research lead on this team, you will:

Lead Content Planning and Quality

  • Function as Key Initiative (KI) leader, creating and maintaining a research portfolio for HRBP clients on three KIs- Organization Design & Change, Talent & Performance Effectiveness, and Employee Experience.
  • Shape the research plan through market sensing and analyzing client requests while regularly monitoring its relevance.
  • Review, edit, and manage the quality and health of the content in the KI to ensure it addresses the needs of key clients including HRBPs and Leaders of HRBPs.
  • Collaborate on a research team through Gartner’s proprietary research process including hypothesis generation, primary and secondary research, and root cause analysis to identify best-in-class solutions.

Understand and Monitor Key Role and Content Health

  • Regularly monitoring and analyzing key web metrics for the client role (web, inquiry, diagnostic, retention metrics) 
  • Partnering and soliciting input from Advisors, Account Executives, Product partners to understand and address client role needs.
  • Supporting role-aligned research, marketing, and commercial team as needed to identify role needs, assess research ideas, and provide insight.
  • Conducting regular interactions with key roles through interviews or supporting inquiry to learn more about key role needs.

Build Researcher Capabilities as a Research Leader

  • Upskill and coach junior team members on the terrain, their research, and edit their work.
  • Author articles, webinar decks, or tools that address key challenges for HRBPs and align to team members’ development needs.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve the climate and culture of the team, the business unit, and the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree Preferred/ bachelor’s degree required.
  • 12+ years of total work experience across HR Business Partnering, HR Consulting (preferably with a focus on HRBPs), HR Research, or Primary and Secondary Research
  • 8+ Years of experience in Human Resources (as a practitioner, consultant, researcher, or expert)
  • 5+ Years of experience managing multi-stakeholder projects and initiatives.
  • 5+ years of experience conducting primary and secondary research utilizing qualitative and quantitative data (for your organization or clients)
  • Experience creating graphical representations of data.
  • Experience in or desire to lead a team of researchers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in HR or social science strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Prior experience coaching or managing junior employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and relay ideas, engage clients and work in a team.
  • Experience communicating complex data through relevant means to senior leaders.
  • Knowledge or experience on HR Business Partnering Issues
