Position Overview:

As a Lead Software Architect, your Java expertise, AWS knowledge, and distributed systems design skills will be critical in shaping the architecture of our cloud-native spend-management platform. Your experience and leadership will guide the team to achieve new levels of technical excellence. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee software architecture design for complex distributed systems and applications, with a particular emphasis on Java-based solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior members of the team to shape and drive the technical strategy and vision, leveraging AWS services and best practices.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate across functions and groups to influence the strategic direction, driving improvements in the technology stack and customer experience.
  • Provide expert technical leadership to solve complex problems and mentor junior architects and engineers in Java development and AWS cloud architecture.
  • Elevate engineering and operational excellence by setting and maintaining high standards and best practices in distributed systems design.
  • Ensure seamless integration with third-party payment providers, such as credit cards, Zelle, PayPal, etc., through well-defined APIs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, engineers, and product managers, to align architectural decisions with business goals.
  • Implement best practices for scalability, security, and performance within the AWS environment.
  • Be a business-minded and product-oriented technical leader, maintaining a focus on delivering outstanding customer experiences.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering or similar, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of software development and design experience, with a strong background in Java-based solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of delivering highly scalable, reliable, and secure financial or spend management systems, utilizing AWS services.
  • Expertise in designing modern event-driven architecture into the product, driving for the highest standards, and utilizing AWS Lambda, S3, and other cloud-native technologies.
  • Extensive technical experience in designing and implementing SaaS products at scale, with a strong emphasis on maintainability, scalability, and reliability. Demonstrated ability to build technical alignment across multiple teams.
  • A history of mentoring and coaching senior and junior engineers, maximizing their technical potential in Java development and AWS cloud architecture.
  • Polyglot experience with multiple object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Java, Ruby, Go, etc.).
  • Mastery of large-scale database solutions, including relational databases and SQL.
  • Deep knowledge of modern web security features (e.g., authorization, identification, certificates, keychain, SSO, OAuth, SSL, 2FA, OAUTH, CSP, HSTS, SRI, CORS).
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements related to financial transactions.
  • Proven experience in building concurrent data streaming and real-time pub-sub systems (e.g., Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS/SNS).
  • Proficiency in development and deployment on AWS, leveraging services such as EC2, RDS, and ECS.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate and evangelize complex ideas clearly across organizational boundaries.

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $176,460.00 - $207,600.00 - $228,360.00
