Pay

$17.09 - $19.82 / hour depending on experience and qualifications

Schedule

1st Shift (Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

This internship will be year-round. Only local candidates or candidates within commuting distance to Collegedale, TN will be considered.

Approximately 20 hours per week, up to 40 hours per week may be expected during summer months and school breaks

Job Summary

McKee Foods is seeking a Chemistry Intern to join our Corporate Research and Development team. Learn from a great team of Chemistry and Food Technology professionals! Join us as an active part of the Chemistry team and you will gain exposure to many facets of analytical and quality testing. This is a great chance to put your technical skills and knowledge to work. The successful student will provide support in specific tasks such as preparing samples for analysis, completing laboratory analyses, performing calibrations on laboratory equipment, and documenting and reporting of test results. We’ll be excited to teach you additional aspects of food analysis and quality testing while you gain plenty of experience. As an Intern, you will be a resource to a team that helps bring together technical knowledge, food safety and regulatory compliance, and application of chemistry techniques to food manufacturing. Make McKee Foods a part of your education plan to help you develop the technical analysis skills needed to become a Chemistry professional!

Required Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a BS degree or MS degree program in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science/Technology, Chemical Engineering or equivalent area of study
  • Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate Student
  • Currently enrolled in or completion of Quantitative Analysis and/or Organic Chemistry I/II courses or equivalent higher level Biology courses
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to clearly document procedures, problems, solutions, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving, trouble-shooting and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a chemistry lab
  • 3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Undergraduate work including successful completion in some or all of the following courses: Food Quality or Food Safety
  • Self-motivated, with strong initiative and self-direction
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively alone or in a team environment
