JDC is seeking a senior accounting and finance professional to fill a key role in financial operations, financial reporting, internal audit, and budget analysis. The Global Director of Accounting and Finance will work closely with the CFO, and oversees the Finance Department of JDC New York Headquarters. This role helps ensure the responsible and effective financial management of a global Jewish humanitarian nonprofit, and has a direct impact on the organization’s mission.

What will you do as a Global Director of Accounting and Finance?

  • Assist the CFO by preparing materials (presentations and reports) for Board/Committee meetings, members of Senior Management, and other audiences as requested
  • Oversee and enhance finance operations processes: cash receipts, cash disbursements, receivables, payables, investments, payroll and benefits
  • Establish, maintain, or enhance control activities
  • Ensure all transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed and supported in accordance with the Organization's policies and with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the Organization's quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Ensure that all statutory filing deadlines are met and all compliance requirements are fulfilled, as these relate to all required Federal and State filings (Forms 990, 990-T, State UBIT Returns, etc.)
  • Supervise compilation, analysis, and management of the New York Headquarters Administrative and Fundraising budgets
  • Recruit, train, develop, supervise and evaluate finance and accounting staff
  • Serve as a liaison to investment management consultants, banks, trustees, major funders, and other key constituents
  • Manage a team of 12 including professional staff and clerks (at various levels of ability and seniority) responsible for Financial Reporting and Financial Operations functions
  • Maintain effective communications with overseas staff in Israel and other field offices to ensure complete and accurate processing of financial information, disclosures and accounting treatment
  • Liaise effectively and coordinate deliverables with regional CFOs and controllers
  • Critically review and update policies and procedures concerning all aspects of global finance operations
  • Research accounting pronouncements and other regulatory guidance as it may relate to new and complex transactions or matters, as these may arise
  • Serve as a primary liaison for Co-Sourced Internal Audit Services Provider
  • Manage Corporate Insurance Programs
  • Complete special projects, as assigned

What qualifications are required to be our Global Director of Accounting and Finance?

  • Ability to multitask, work on one’s own, and prioritize work to achieve tight deadlines in a complex environment
  • Flexibility to work extra/nonstandard hours to facilitate deliverables for a multinational organization
  • Significant experience managing professional staff; strong managerial skills and investment in growing staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (finance, accounting, economics)
  • CPA certification and strong accounting skills
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with modern ERP systems
  • Outstanding quantitative and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail, excellent organization skills, and technological savvy
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and timely manner
  • Ability to interface with all levels of staff and external constituents in a professional and flexible manner; Cultural competency to work effectively with staff from around the world and across varying backgrounds; political savvy
  • Dedication to being a change agent who can establish a culture of continuous improvement
  • Team-orientation and humbleness; excellent discretion on what does and does not require input from the CFO, to ensure good use of the CFO’s time and sufficient information and teamwork for strategic direction
  • Basic knowledge of Jewish history and Israel to aid in comprehension of organizational operations
  • Ability to work some weekends and longer hours as needed, to accommodate working across time-zones at a global organization
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment
  • Ability to read words and numbers and communicate in person or over the telephone

Additional Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Passion for Jewish service strongly preferred
  • Public Accounting experience in large firm strongly preferred
  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree
  • Proficiency in Hebrew or Russian
  • Desire to learn and grow, curiosity

  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Hours: 35 hours/week, 8:45 AM – 4:45PM with a 1-hour lunch break; flexibility to work some Sundays/additional hours to accommodate time zones

What are the compensation and benefits for a Global Director of Accounting and Finance?

This is a full-time position paid semi-monthly at a salary of $190,000-$230,000 per year; in determining where a candidate falls in that range JDC considers several factors, including skills and experience, internal equity, and cost of living in location of work. This role is exempt per the FLSA.
