RF Engineer (Radar design & development)

ECS is seeking an RF Engineer (Radar design & development) to work in our Chantilly, VA office.

Job Description:

  • Design circuit and system-level RF solutions to meet customer requirements for new Radar and Flight Termination System (FTS) products and capabilities
  • Test and troubleshoot RF electronic assemblies and components
  • Model and analyze RF circuits and use test results to enhance and validate models
  • Perform system-level analyses of RF parameters such as cascaded noise figure, dynamic range, receiver sensitivity, intermodulation distortion, 3rd-order intercept, spurious and harmonics, linearity and gain compression.
  • Participate in small multi-discipline teams to integrate and perform qualification tests on Radar and FTS products
  • Provide engineering support and hands-on troubleshooting for fielded products.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing systems to meet changing user requirements.
  • Produce test and qualification procedures and technical documentation including operations manuals, user guides, etc.
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations to support and enhance existing systems and new development projects.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel, up to 20%, several times a year to support installations and testing.

Required Skills:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with related coursework such as electromagnetics, electronic circuit design, communication theory, remote sensing, etc… with 2-3 years of related experience
  • Understanding of working in a laboratory environment and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Use of electronic test equipment such as: Modulation Analyzers, Audio Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Multimeters, Waveform/Frequency Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Power Meters, Frequency Counters and Logic Analyzers.
  • Performing analyses to derive system, subsystem and component-level specifications from customer requirements
  • Developing electronic test and verification procedures and analyzing test results against customer-requirements.
  • Participation in design reviews with both internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional and detail-oriented work ethic
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government DoD Security Clearance

Desired Skills:

  • MSEE with focus in Electromagnetics and Microwave Engineering with 1-3 years of related experience
  • Experience with RF EDA software such as ADS, HFSS, Genesys, Sonnet, Microwave Office, SPICE, etc...
  • Experience in electronic circuit design and analysis applications such as Mentor Graphics PADS, ModelSim, ISE, etc.
  • Experience with math and computational software packages such as MATLAB, Mathcad
  • Microwave-frequency, wide-band circuit design techniques and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with signal processing applications and techniques.
