Mill is all about answering a simple question: how can we prevent waste? Less waste can save time, money, energy, maybe even our planet. And there’s no better place to start than food. Food waste is one of the most solvable climate problems facing us today. Plus, our trash really stinks. It’s gross, heavy, and our least favorite chore. At Mill we are striving to build a better environment for all, as we take on climate and kitchen change.

Mill is seeking an ambitious leader for our Phoenix Valley market, where we have partnered with an incredible local farm to create a local, circular, regenerative loop for household food scraps. 

As Mill’s first local hire in the Phoenix market, you will be responsible for driving growth in Phoenix from the ground up. To accomplish this, you will forge partnerships with local organizations, define and execute marketing campaigns, set our event strategy (and represent the brand), deepen relationships with our local customers, and develop other approaches for growing Mill’s connectivity and impact within Phoenix. This role will require you to have a mix of creativity, tenacity, operational rigor, and boundless energy.

You will be supported by our team at headquarters and partners in the market, and will have significant autonomy to try new things, chase exciting opportunities, and determine the best path for growing your market.

Responsibilities

  • Grow the business: Your number one goal will be growing the Phoenix market. Define our strategy and lead us in achieving our growth targets.
  • Local expertise: Be the expert on Phoenix’s local nuances. Adapt our national storytelling to reflect the local narrative, and funnel learnings throughout Mill to uplevel our storytelling everywhere.
  • Business development: Build relationships with government officials, non-profits, local businesses, and everyday folks. Collaborate with this network to unlock new business opportunities and enrich the local community.
  • Events: Curate epic in-person activations that get people stoked about Mill.
  • Customer focus: Design and grow our local ambassador program, and incorporate customer feedback into our narrative and product offering.
  • Marketing: Develop marketing campaigns that scale our reach. Allocate a local marketing budget to maximize growth.
  • Spokesperson: Be Mill’s on-the-ground spokesperson in both public and non-public settings.

Qualifications

  • Passion for our mission to keep food waste out of landfills.
  • Desire to make a significant impact on Mill’s growth trajectory.
  • Excitement to work at a startup where things change rapidly.
  • 4+ years of work experience.
  • Live in or willing to relocate to the Phoenix Valley.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience leading local growth efforts.
  • Experience working at a startup or in another face-paced environment.
  • Experience engaging and partnering with government officials and staff.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $100k to $130k, which does not include the value of benefits or a potential equity grant. A wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, market conditions, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and business and organizational needs. At Mill, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
