PURPOSE: The primary function of a Machining Technician, CNC Programmer is to program CNC equipment, develop machining processes for new products, and drive continuous improvements for quality, safety, and cost reductions. The role also involves specifying tooling and demonstrating a capable machining process. The successful candidate will provide collaborative communication between cross functional departments while applying knowledge and experience to innovate and improve machining processes. 

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):

  • Creates G-code CNC programs for a multitude of machining equipment such as lathes and vertical and horizontal machining centers using Esprit CAM software and some manual G-code programming.
  • Specifies and procures cutting tools and fixtures to be used in machining components. 
  • Creates set up sheets, procedures and documentation for the manufacturing process.
  • Communicates and works with pieceworkers, vendors, customers, and internal cross functional departments.
  • Ability to define tasks, estimate completion dates and communicate the status accurately.
  • Programming machining equipment and operating the equipment for test cuts/program prove out.
  • Generate CNC machining programs for new machining equipment and for new products.
  • Resolving safety, environmental and ergonomic issues.
  • Drive process, quality, cost and optimization improvements.
  • Evaluation and implementation of employee suggestions.
  • Perform cost analyses and drive cost reductions.
  • Provide shop support and develop manufacturing processes for new products.
  • Create and modify BOM’s and routings.
  • Other assignments as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy, continuous improvement, and other business initiatives.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Vocational Training, but does not require a university degree + 8 years of advanced machining experience, or GED with 10+ years in related field, or Associate Degree in related field.
  • Minimum 5 years CNC programming experience with a multitude of machining processes.
  • Proficient in implementing machining processes and tooling used in production machining.
  • Proficient at generating G-code CNC programs using CAM software (proficiency in Esprit CAM is a plus) and operating machinery for program prove out and test cuts. Can program G-code manually and can understand machining process from reading G-code. 
  • Proficient at the machining trade, measuring machined parts, and able to perform hands-on work as required.
  • Excellent organizational skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to troubleshoot and solve machining problems. Attention to detail when needed.
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments and changing priorities.
  • Good computer skills with ability to effectively use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently independently, cross functionally, or part of a team.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding and the technical expertise of the machining trade and demonstrated performance applying it. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Excellent print reading skills. GD&T and 3D CAD proficiency is a plus.
  • Ability to be effective working with shop floor employees and to adjust work schedules at times if needed.
  • Able to gather and analyze data to make good fact based decisions.
