About the Role

Uber is seeking a Senior Business Development Associate to join our Central BD team with a focus on growing existing partnerships and forging new partnerships for the Core Technologies program that will support Uber’s vision into the future. Focus areas for partnerships will include the Safety, Risk and Identity value chains as well as support for the Artificial Intelligence program.

Successful candidates will bring a dynamic combination of intellectual rigor and emotional awareness, maturity, an ability to think strategically and execute tactically, and strong interpersonal skills to maximize value in partnership negotiations and contracting. You enjoy building strategy and structure amid ambiguity, you enjoy operating independently while still remaining connected to your team and a broad set of internal partners. Executing complex and multifaceted long-term deals connected to the core of Uber’s business requires considered internal alignment; senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders will support your deal strategy and execution because they remain convinced your deals and deal structures are right for the business.

This is a highly cross-functional role. Internally, you will collaborate across teams including Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, and Finance. Externally, you will represent the face of Uber to our business partners.

What You Will Do

  • Lead complex, multifaceted deals with prospective partners across the focus areas
  • Work closely with Ops, Product and Engineering to tailor deal strategy and identify how to drive impact in a specific partnership
  • Build consensus behind specific deal strategy and timely support for deal execution across diverse internal audiences, from senior executives to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Lead the development of long term, mutually beneficial relationships with executives of current and prospective partners.
  • Define the right balance between practicability and securing value across a long time horizon
  • Collaborate closely with Legal counterparts to weigh business value and legal risk, co-creating and reviewing legal concepts and specific contract language
  • Inform and suggest updates to overall deal strategy and deal frameworks based on your negotiations considering Uber goals, partner goals, and industry and partner situations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in business/corporate development
  • Experience structuring partnerships, define business models and commercial term sheets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience in strategy consulting, investment banking
  • Exposure to large tech companies and advanced technologies
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to combine business, strategy, finance and legal concepts to lead complex, multi-faceted deals
  • High attention to detail, with direct experience effectively co-drafting specific contract language with Legal counterparts
  • Be able to work cross functionally with many other roles and stakeholders in the company
  • Exceptional communication skills, both within your team, with leadership, and with partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that allow you to build trust and navigate intense negotiations to secure Uber’s interests with partners, and adeptly lead the cross-functional coordination (product, local operations, engineering, finance, legal) required to implement deals
  • High standards and a bias toward action. You can find the context and information you need through relationships across the organization, you push for clarity and delivery, and you hold a high bar from your contributions and those of the people you work with.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$124,000 per year - USD$137,500 per year.
