The Family life Subject Educator is a member of the Human Development team under the Community Education Program. Responsible for supporting educational program needs, assisting in delivering program goals and objectives, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for adults and youth with a subject matter focus on child & human development, social emotional health, and wellbeing. Work as an Extension Association team member in addressing local, regional, and statewide programming priorities. This individual represents Cornell Cooperative Extension's Community Education programs to the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University as part of program delivery. This position is funded by a contract with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in human development (Child Development), Social work or Psychology or associate degree in human development (Child Development), Social work or Psychology and experience relevant to the role of this position.
  • Fluency in family and human relationship research.
  • Ability/experience in facilitating workshops and curriculum development.
  • Experience in blog writing and podcast scriptwriting, and production
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional tools and methods and electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).
  • Detail-oriented. Ability to follow procedures and written instructions.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficient with windows-based software, including the use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.
  • Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community, and professional leaders.
  • Ability to identify and utilize program resources from the organization and the community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Development during the Life Span (infancy through old age)
  • Experience with Cornell Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations
  • Grant writing experience
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery – 75%

  • Deliver established subject matter knowledge and teach educational programs to the public and professionals.
  • Deliver and teach innovative educational programs.
  • Provide educational program efforts via mass media with direction from the supervisor.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource in all areas of Human Development.
  • Assist supervisor in providing moderately complex non-standard subject matter responses.
  • Interact with program participants for effective program delivery.
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary and multi-association team efforts to deliver the program.
  • Provide administrative insight on tasks that support the delivery of educational programs.
  • Create lesson plans to deliver educational programs for diverse audiences
  • Foster acceptance of programs, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse resources

Program Evaluation – 5%

  • Implement program evaluation as designed.
  • Based on established program parameters, interpret evaluation data to constituencies.
  • Communicate evaluation results and findings.
  • Interact with various constituencies to obtain their evaluation of programs.
  • Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for recommending improvements.
  • May assist in multi-disciplinary and multi-association team efforts to design or analyze program evaluation for recommending improvements.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction – 5%

  • May provide moderately complex administrative tasks to the total regional program effort to plan and implement educational programs, social media activities, and environmental change initiatives.
  • Assist in the design of a system of ongoing involvement of citizens, which expresses the community's demographics.

Management – 5%

  • Monitor and ensure that educational content conforms to the Association's policies.
  • May give guidance to volunteers and staff, specifically those performing similar work or addressing a similar target population

Coordination/Operation – 5%

  • Provide moderately complex routine tasks to support the delivery of educational program goals.
  • Provide low complexity limited tasks to support program budget implementation, including researching pricing, supply options, and estimating program expenses.
  • Prepare program-related expense receipts for recording.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that support Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow applicable federal, state, and local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement, and standards.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Salary: $23.00 per hour

Schedule: Non-exempt (20 -35 hours per week)
