Position Summary

The Clinical Talent Acquisition Specialist develops sourcing and recruiting strategies to effectively recruit qualified applicants for positions at Stony Brook Medicine.

The incumbent is responsible for screening, interviewing and recommending applicants based on position requirements and working within the contractual language of various collective bargaining agreements as it relates to the promotion, transfer, demotion and other staffing/recruiting related issues. The incumbent works with labor relations on negotiating issues related to promotion, transfer, demotion and other staffing/recruiting related issues; implementing GOER, SUNY OER initiative as related to promotion, transfer, demotion and related issues. 

Duties of a Clinical Talent Acquisition Specialist may include the following but are not limited to:

Organization Outreach and Branding

  • Assists with development of ongoing marketing strategies for Stony Brook Medicine and recruitment/retention activities
  • Participates in Stony Brook University Hospital marketing/community outreach
  • Initiates, develops and assists in the development of and manages all aspects of advertising and other recruitment materials for publication in journals, newspapers, and electronic platforms
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationship related offices

Meeting and Committees

  • Participates in hospital and nursing committees as directed by the department head
  • Attends Human Resource workshops and shares pertinent information with colleagues and department head, and hiring managers
  • Actively participates in department staff meetings

Communication

  • Serves as resource for Stony Brook Medicine with respect to interviewing skills and appropriate personnel practices
  • Communicates and works closely with various administrative Hospital/University offices regarding recruitments

Recruiting

  • Provides leadership in developing new programs to enhance recruitment, retention, and employee satisfaction including active participation in Hospital recruitment and retention activities
  • Interviews applicants for employment at Stony Brook Medicine, utilizing interview techniques that are consistent with laws, regulations, policies and best practice guidelines
  • Screen applicants for competency, professionalism, and minimum/preferred requirements (licensure, criminal background checks, certifications and others as required by policy/practice), and refer qualified candidates to hiring departments for interviews
  • Maintains timely communication with applicants by phone, written correspondence, and personal contact from the initial contact through the interview process and upon hire/orientation or no offer
  • Develops a network of professional resources to maintain accurate and up-to-date information regarding local, state, and national nursing and other clinical staff availability trends through current literature, networks with other health care recruiters
  • Assists the department head in providing recruitment materials for various programs and outreach
  • Maintains effective communication with hiring managers to determine unit needs and to recruit candidates utilizing best practices
  • Maintains a staffing roster and posts vacancies as needed
  • Creates, prepares, and distributes all announcement fliers and special job posting opportunities for Stony Brook Medicine
  • In consultation with hospital leadership and unit leadership, develops advertising and other recruitment materials for publication and use in recruitment activities
  • Monitors and facilitates initial employment procedures: verification, pre-employment, and employee health screening
  • Manages all data using available software in relation to inquiries, applicants, interviews, and hires, and retrieves data on qualified internal and external candidates whenever needed
  • Assist the department head with policy development and implementation in support of department’s goals including those related to recruiting and retention

Qualifications

Required: 

  • BA/BS
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience as an in house recruiter or third party agency recruiter for a recruiting firm 
  • At least 3 years prior recruitment experience of Registered Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals. 
  • Proven track record of sourcing in had-to-fill geographies
  • Experience leading behaviorally-based interview techniques; strong candidate assessment skills
  • 3 or more years of full cycle talent acquisition. (Sourcing/Recruiting, Interviewing, Salary Negotiation & Offer) 
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working with an HRIS or TMS 
  • Must be a team player
  • Must be able to travel locally 

Preferred: 

  • Prior experience recruiting for a high volume, fast paced organization
  • Recruiting for a healthcare organizations (agency or in house)
  • HR certifications
  • Experience using LinkedIn Recruiter to source talent

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). 

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

Anticipated Pay Range: The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $65,000 - $75,000 / year (Salary will be prorated to part time).The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting..Your total compensation goes beyond the number in your paycheck.
