The Senior Director, Risk Management serves as an experienced technology leader in Capital One’s Associate Experience Technology (AXT) organization within the Risk & Controls team. This is a visible, strategic, and high-impact leadership role, who is an advocate for continuous controls and risk management, and program and process maturation. This individual is a technology risk and controls expert with a capacity to lead experts and also possesses the qualities of a skilled risk management Subject Matter Expert (SME). This individual brings operational depth and breadth across a broad range of functions.

The Senior Director enables competitive advantage by leading excellence in Capital One’s Technology controls, risk and awareness functions at the organization as well as enterprise levels.

The Senior Director is responsible for shaping and implementing a bold strategic agenda for Technology controls across multiple cloud environments, driving action plans, and building/leading a high performing organization to deliver results. In addition, this individual effectively influences key internal stakeholders toward sound decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Plays a key leadership role within AXT’s community of leaders, driving strategy and collaborating with peers across Technology, Lines of Business, Product, and horizontal functions.
  • Instills a culture that works toward the highest standards in AXT - delivering a breakout associate experience that safeguards the business
  • With an innovative mindset, employs continuous control assurance approaches to mitigate risk around current and anticipated risks. 
  • Advances the overall mission to assess, improve and monitor AXT’s product risk.
  • Builds relationships, influences and collaborates with partners across the lines of defense , and with executives across both technology and the business. 
  • Guides the acquisition of professional services and tools for effective governance.
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization by earning the reputation for being a dedicated senior leader and change agent.
  • Recruits, develops, and retains top talent, and uses excellent people leadership skills. 
  • Build, inspire, lead, and manage a team to perform functional duties that may include (but are not limited to):
  • Partner with teams across TECH and AXT to proactively identify and mitigate risk
  • Apply Cyber threat modeling principles to ongoing risk practices
  • Partner with product teams to ensure risk considerations and expectations are 
  • Continuously enhance AXT operational risk modeling 
  • Championing ongoing enhancements to AXT product governance

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 7 years of people management experience
  • At least 9 years of experience with information technology management
  • At least 8 years of experience in information and technology risk management controls
  • At least 8 years of experience with cyber or technology policies, standards, and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree 
  • 5+ years of experience working with industry frameworks such as NIST CSF, FFIEC CAT, CIS RAM, FAIR and PCI DSS
  • 3+ years of experience with information technology audit or compliance management
  • Industry-recognized professional certifications such as Certified in Risk & Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • 3+ years of experience in a regulated environment
  • Financial services industry experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $236,800 - $270,300 for Sr. Director, Risk Management

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
