This position is expected to start in Summer 2024.

The College of Arts & Media (CAM) is seeking a dynamic and creative student interested in the development and management of social media. This intern supports the CAM Marketing & Communications Team by maintaining a strong presence on social media for all accounts and developing social media campaigns that promote engagement as well as CAM events and achievements. The CAM community includes the Departments of Art, Dance, Mass Communication, Theatre & Musical Theatre, and the School of Music.

The CAM Marketing & Communications Team provides student interns with the opportunity to work in a professional setting and gain valuable real-world skills and training that will benefit their future careers. This intern will report to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Operations (head of the CAM Marketing & Communications Team) and the CAM Communications Manager.

Duties and Expectations

This position is a representative of the college and university and requires serious dedication to the internship. Will be expected to work occasional nights and weekends. The social media intern is expected to do the following:

  • Learn and use web applications for social media management such as Sprout Social and Meta Business Suite.
  • Plan, pitch, and schedule/implement campaigns that promote CAM events using content generated by departments and/or the CAM Marketing & Communications team.
  • Plan, pitch, and schedule/implement campaigns that encourage engagement and showcase the authentic, unique nature of CAM’s academic areas.
  • Develop, proofread, and adapt copy for captions across various platforms.
  • Check and reply accordingly to comments/direct messages on each platform daily.
  • Contact SHSU students, faculty, staff, and alumni regarding content when necessary.
  • Have strong attention to detail, stay organized, and meet deadlines.
  • Have a strong visual sense and creative eye for communicating through visual media.
  • Stay up to date with social media trends applicable to higher education.
  • Research current best practices for various platforms.
  • Export cross-network analytics and provide feedback for admins.
  • Prepare and distribute swag bags for various pop-up events.
  • May assist other interns as needed depending on project type.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in using social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • General knowledge of social media strategies, trends, and analytics.
  • Capable of handling a fast-paced marketing environment.
  • Creative and extroverted personality with a passion for arts and media.
  • Comfortable in front of and behind a camera to create content for social media pages.

Content can encompass a variety of elements (social media strategies, content engagement, digital organization, branding, promotions, etc.) that showcase your skillset.
  • Submit an optional writing sample. This can be a creative writing piece, news article, script, or any other written work you believe best demonstrates your writing skills.
  • Submit a copy of your class schedule.

Other Requirements for the PositionApplicants must have and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. The successful internship candidate may be eligible for a scholarship within CAM. Interested applicants must file a completed Scholarships4Kats to be considered for a scholarship. Scholarships are not guaranteed and are contingent upon available funding.

All CAM interns are expected to do the following:

  • Learn and use web applications for project management and cloud storage such as Dropbox and Microsoft Teams.
  • Communicate openly, effectively, and frequently with team admins.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the team.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of CAM information.
  • Learn and follow all college and SHSU brand standards.
  • Assist and participate in the organization and execution of CAM-sponsored events that may include nights or weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.
