DESCRIPTION

Are you an experienced Business Intelligence Engineer interested in an opportunity to help drive Amazon’s flywheel and develop your A to Z business understanding? Do you enjoy learning about different businesses while driving innovation in the data and analytics space?

Amazon FinOps is looking for a highly skillful Business Intelligence Engineer to be part of the Global Data & Analytics Team (GDA). As an BIE expert at Amazon FinOps, you will have the opportunity to work on some of the world's largest data sets, influence the long-term evolution of our data analytics capability and help build data driven operational strategies to adapt and be successful in ever changing business environments.

The candidate is expected to possess industry best practices for building reporting solutions. The candidate must have extensive experience as Tableau site administrator (https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/to_site_startup.htm; note: not Tableau server admin), experience with dimensional modelling, writing optimized SQL queries. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required as the candidate will work very closely with a diverse, global team. Ability to create and manage work plans, timelines and accommodate multiple priorities is required.

Candidate will be technical lead role that is responsible to design, implement and scale: (1) Security and Governance to protect sensitive data, define access controls ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (2) Tableau permissions strategy (3) Policies and procedures for other engineers to ensure published content meets quality and performance benchmarks (4) Licensing model to ensure frugality (5) Collaboration, communication and mentoring BI engineers and foster knowledge sharing. The role will also act as a SPOC for the global Tableau support engineering/server team.

Role will also own, maintain and develop our online Analytics Portal that hosts data visualization dashboards (Tableau and QuickSight).

Key job responsibilities

  • Tableau site administration, develop implementation and operation support plans for Tableau
  • Optimize and organize data pipelines into the visualization environment; contribute to data design, data modelling and data extracts/transforms
  • Work on the governance foundations of the analytics environment for the GDA team
  • Define technical requirements and drive their implementation by the Data Engineering team
  • Review technical work of other team members, provide improvement advice
  • Query data from various sources (databases) using SQL
  • Provide input and recommendations on technical issues for the Data Engineering team
  • Enhance online Analytics Portal with new features and capabilities to cover various team’s needs (dynamic report and data source cataloging, enhanced report visibility, continuous integration with QuickSight, Tableau, and other applications,...
  • Work in a genuinely global environment

Global Data & Analytics (GDA) supports all decisions in AR. GDA’s mission is to drive a world class Order-to-Cash cycle by providing timely data, insights and predictions to our leadership and operations teams. In close cooperation with our stakeholders, we agree and build uniform metrics; use data from a ‘single source of truth’; provide automated, self-service, standard reporting; and build predictive analytics. Our goal is to actively contribute to the improvement of Amazon's Free Cash Flow, Customer Experience and process efficiency by value-adding analytics.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Finance, or related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience as Tableau site administrator https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/to_site_startup.htm and troubleshooting dashboard/site performance
  • 5+ years of professional experience working with large data sets and writing complex SQL queries to pull data
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a Business Analyst or BI Engineer role
  • Ability to display complex quantitative data in a simple, intuitive format and to present findings in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with static websites (JavaScript, CSS, HTML), Typescript, Python

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Data engineering credentials
  • Experience with Star Schemas, Dimensional Models, Datamarts in Traditional Data Warehouses as well as in Big Data / Advanced Analytics domains
  • Advanced analytical skills and is detail-oriented, while also seeing and understanding the big picture
  • Experience working with cloud database technologies such as Amazon Redshift, RDS or Azure DW
  • UI and UX design experience
  • Git and DevOps experience
