Job Description

The Senior ESH Specialist is responsible for supporting and ensuring continuous improvement in the areas of occupational safety and health at the plant location. The Senior ESH Specialist will also collaborate with divisional safety & health (S&H) management. Task include the following items:

  • Follow up on legal regulations and evaluate possible impacts on processes and facilities. 
  • Ensure that all legally required permits are applied for in due time and that permit conditions are evaluated and implemented. 
  • Check compliance with legal and internal regulations and implement measures
  • Represent Continental in negotiations with responsible authorities about ESH matters 
  • ESH Programs include, but are not limited to Federal Regulation and Consensus Standards (example OSHA, EPA, TSCA, NFPA, IBC, IFC, and DOT); and State and Local rules and regulations 
  • Ensure a structured management system of waste, waste water, air emission, handing of substances plan, security, fire protection and medical response is established and implement ESH investments 
  • Implement and maintain ESH related processes 
  • Ensure the training and awareness of employees for ESH matters to achieve continuous improvement. 
  • Develop methods and provide regular training to avoid accidents and occupational sickness, environmental contamination and fires 
  • Conduct risk analyses, and ensure emergency preparedness/response plans are current and effective 
  • Initiate ESH improvement projects 
  • Develop and manage departmental budget, including support needs identified by internal and external customers
  • Effectively communicate ESH strategy and objectives with Senior Leadership.
  • Support creation of health, safety and environmental (ESH) goals for the site management and appropriate activity-based goals for the leadership team, functional managers, and front-line supervisors to drive ESH culture, compliance and results.
  • Ensure the training and awareness of employees for ESH matters to achieve continuous improvement
  • Develop methods and provide regular training to avoid accidents and occupational sickness, environmental contamination and fires
  • Ensure safety checks/reviews are completed during commissioning of all equipment 
  • Ensure Continental contractors are aware of site rules and procedures 
  • Maintain management systems according to ISO 14001, OSHA and ISO 45001 and internal standards
  • Develop ESH concepts, policies, procedures and work instructions, reviewing regularly and improving as required
  • Monitor plant specific KPIs to measure performance and provide reporting on corporate / divisional KPIs as required 
  • Conduct structured root cause analyses of incidents, also defining and implementing sustainable improvement measures 
  • Manage the safety awareness and culture of the entire facility to achieve and continuously improve ESH goals, objectives
  • Establish and achieve audits to track and identify gaps in the local compliance with Continental (ESH) policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in business team meetings, ensure the CBT approach is being applied within the cross functional business team. 

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATION 

  • B.S. degree in Industrial Technology or related field
  • 2+ years of experience with Occupational Safety. 
  • Previous supervisory/leadership experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  • 2+ years with direct hands-on safety experience in a warehousing, manufacturing or transportation operation.
