CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Drive Value For the Enterprise: Work with Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer, as well as enterprise-wide leadership, to:
  • Prioritize areas of opportunity and of focus for our team to support.
  • Scope and resource strategic initiatives, including development of cross-functional project plans & charters focused on value.
  • Lead high impact and high visibility cross functional initiatives, bringing organizational stakeholders along on required change journeys.
  • Deliver data-based recommendations in clear, compelling way to senior leaders; will include comprehensive financial, competitive, benchmarking data & analysis.
  • Set the organization up to successfully deliver on recommendations and opportunities; in some cases, lead implementation along with Enterprise PMO and department / functional leadership.
  • Broader Business Strategy Development: Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with UM’s/UHealth’s/MSOM’s goals and objectives; identify market trends, competitive landscape, and potential growth areas to drive business expansion & optimization.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to assure business development strategies are well-aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Expertise: Remain current on key trends in Healthcare and Higher Education spaces; understand appropriate data sources, industry forums, connections needed to help UM stay on cutting edge of insight.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship, and leadership to the S&T junior team; Foster a collaborative and high-performing culture, ensuring the team's alignment with organizational goals; review work product and provide feedback/coaching; manage subordinate staff performance of their jobs and multiple work streams/projects efficiently; contribute to team’s work and culture, support colleagues, build collective capabilities of S&T through formal and informal sessions, and plays a vocal part in team meetings.
  • Behavioral: Demonstrate high emotional intelligence with deftness in navigating complex organizations with multiple stake holders; contribute to team’s work and culture, supporting colleagues.
  • Communications: Consistently communicate at a polished executive level, both verbal and written; capable of providing communications trainings for staff and supporting team development on executive level communications.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data, market trends, and business metrics to evaluate the success of business development initiatives; prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations for future growth.
  • Data Analysis & Synthesis: Compile and work with data sets, including from 3rd party vendors, on key inputs and outcomes of all relevant areas for the University of Miami including Health System, Higher Education, and Athletics; understand and select relevant tools / solutions for appropriate analysis given required precision and timelines; synthesize outcomes into recommendations for Senior Leadership.
  • Business Planning: Lead the development of business plans for major investments including identifying and vetting opportunities, collaborating closely with key stakeholders to gather insights, and developing a clear, actionable and implementable plan for approval. Leverage a deep understanding of internal capabilities, market dynamics, competitive landscapes, and emerging trends to develop the plan and prioritize enterprise investment.
  • 3rd party management: Manage relationships and projects with 3rd parties, consulting firms, vendors, or others; lead in scoping and negotiations, ensure value for the enterprise, and manage 3rd party resources to ensure compliance with policies and appropriate engagement with the organization.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University's assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, MBA or similar degree preferred

Experience:

  • Significant experience (8+ years) in transformation management, consulting, strategy, strategic projects, initiative management, and program/project management in ambiguous, multi-stakeholder environments
  • 5+ years of strategy or management consulting experience with a leading firm is preferred
  • Experience and depth in Higher Education strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering value through strategic initiatives

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data
  • Strong project management capabilities
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, motivating and inspiring cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment
  • Comfort working in ambiguous situations and across different lines of business

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

  • Oversees and manages S&T department and staff, ensuring quality outcomes.
  • Understands the national higher education industry, knowledgeable regarding competitors and trends.
  • Assists in internal consulting and corporate strategy projects.
  • Searches for important data sources and converts data to meaningful information.
  • Develops / oversees professional and succinct financial projections.
  • Works effectively across organization lines with departmental & function leadership and staff.
  • Develops and ensures adherence to department’s annual budget in accordance with University's guidelines and policies.
  • Prepares analyses of budget allocation and reviews the current level of expenditures versus those planned to determine the year-end status of the budget.
  • Reviews and approves financial transactions.
  • Monitors contractual obligations and ensures consistency with departmental budget, goals, and programmatic initiatives.
  • Advances S&T agenda / initiatives and makes recommendations to senior management on how to best execute.
  • Evaluates existing internal controls and approval processes and makes recommendations on how to improve fiscal integrity and minimize conflicts.
  • Recruits, trains and develops talent, and prepares performance reports for staff.
