Whole Life Engineering (WLE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable and delivered on time. WLE consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, program offices and our customers. WLE disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines: Reliability, System Safety and Supportability.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a System Safety Engineer, to join our System Safety team located in Tucson, AZ. Your overall responsibilities will include:

Analysis of engineering hardware, electrical drawings/schematics and assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirement compliance.

Work with test and tactical operating and maintenance procedures to assure the proper administrative controls are in place.

Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective measures.

Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal activities.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses (e.g. software, hardware, flight test, maintenance and hazard management).

Managing a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, to include:

Monitoring program technical execution

Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)

Mentoring Jr. Engineers

Performing critical fault tree safety analyses

Preparing and delivering Safety Assessment Reports

Supporting and developing Safety Program Briefs

Briefing program safety at technical interchange reviews with the customer to include the Weapon Systems Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB) approval process.

Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards.

Collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines to gain a full understanding of product design.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Typically Requires: Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience OR an Associate’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required.

Employment Experience:

Experience with: System Safety Engineering, System Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering in Aerospace, Automotive or Medical Device industries.

The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. US citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

Experience with DoD (or similar) System Safety Programs.

Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.

Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel.

Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).

Requires theoretical to advanced knowledge of work area typically obtained through University Degree combined with experience. Practical knowledge of RTX projects, programs

or systems with the ability to make enhancements and leverage in daily work.

Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience.

Engineering/Other Technical Positions:Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics(STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior

relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
