Summary

As a Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Standards Engineer you will work on a team that plans and provides engineering expertise to a broad range of assignments related to industry best transmission and distribution design and construction standards and practices. In this role you will help to improve PGE’s customer experience by continuously improving PGE’s operational standards and practices. You will be responsible for:

  • updating T&D standards to reflect industry best practices and PGE operational needs
  • ensuring NESC compliance with existing standards
  • communicating standards updates to and soliciting feedback from a variety of internal stakeholders
  • managing material failures
  • approving alternate material suppliers
  • participating in supplier assessments
  • providing subject matter expertise to internal stakeholders

This role requires in-depth knowledge and experience using best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services. You will solve complex problems by leading and working with a variety of stakeholders and using new perspectives and applying them to existing solutions. You will also act as a subject matter expert and resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • We are hiring for one position. This position is open to both a Senior/p3 Standard Engineer or a Principal/p4 level. The level will be determine based on the successful applicant’s qualification, experience, and demonstrated skills during the interview process. Responsibilities

Engineering Standards Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and provides guidance and direction on engineering processes and standards to colleagues when requested. Applies knowledge of transmission and design standards, including overhead/underground distribution design, construction practices and materials, design tools, techniques, regulatory requirements and applicable state and federal codes; provides technical guidance and support to other engineers or third-party contractors.

Engineering Production Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects; coordinates multiple discipline activity. Develops and provides quality assurance reviews of engineering solutions that meet technical requirements, all applicable codes, regulatory requirements and follow sound engineering practice. Analyzes and completes complex overhead or underground material and equipment specifications and studies, providing data and recommendations technical matters to management; manages complex transmission and design projects. Creates new standards and work practices. Develops, revises and implements underground material and equipment specifications, leads standards review meetings and obtains input and technical data from various technical stakeholders, leads development of complex standards and provides technical support and guidance to less experienced colleagues; determines requirements for T&D projects and determines project requirements and scope.

Project Coordination Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on projects with varying complexity, including representing the team to interdepartmental and external (regulatory) stakeholders. Plans, develops and coordinates T&D standards projects with complex design, construction, operation, maintenance or testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs; provides accurate capital budget and job estimates. Considers supply chain impacts.

Knowledge Sharing Serves as a technical specialist and provides consultation/guidance to project teams in a particular practice area; actively fosters knowledge management and provides mentoring; implements resource management strategy. Develops training content on new design standards; trains designers, field technicians and less experienced colleagues on new T&D standards; provides technical training to department and company through internal training program.

Qualifications 

Required:

Sr. Standards Engineer, P3

  • Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering (or related field). ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.
  • Experience Typically, Five or more years in engineering, or four or more years in related field with PE license.
  • Certifications, Licenses and Training Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.

Principal Standards Engineer, P4

  • Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering (or related field). ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.
  • Experience Typically, Eight or more years in engineering
  • Certifications, Licenses and Training Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge of PGE Standards and Practices
  • Advanced knowledge of the T&D System both in general and specific to PGE
  • Basic knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil)
  • Basic knowledge of Structural analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of electric utility operational practices
  • Advanced knowledge of medium voltage equipment specifications, IEEE Standards, and the National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering and economic principles and concepts.
  • Advanced knowledge of other engineering disciplines and advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
  • Advanced understanding and application of engineering processes and procedures; working knowledge of other related departments and functions.
  • Advanced industry knowledge and technology trends.
  • Advanced knowledge of company QA/QC process and procedures.
  • Intermediate knowledge of construction feasibility.
  • Intermediate knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of process, procedures for project controls and estimates.
  • Intermediate knowledge of initiating electrical improvements and corrective actions for transmission and distribution.
  • Intermediate knowledge of physical electrical and control and protection transmission and distribution design
  • Advanced ability to review, evaluate and analyze technical information, policies and reports.

PGE supports hybrid flexible work arrangements; and will have a combination of in-the-office and working offsite. This individual must be based within 75 miles of the work location and will be required to work in-the-office at least once a week. However, these arrangements may change due to business needs or changes in responsibility.

Compensation Range:

$68,850.00 - $189,875.00
