Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an Environmental Planner IV (NEPA Land Use Planning) to join our Environmental Planning Group. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to join our interdisciplinary team to support National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, state-level equivalent reviews, and environmental permitting by writing technical assessments of impacts on the natural and physical environment; interfacing with clients and other technical experts; supporting public outreach efforts; and contributing to a positive teamwork-oriented company culture. Your NEPA experience in planning for land use and wilderness areas will be put to good use in this largely office-based role, although travel to public lands and project areas around the west and across the United States may be required depending on client and/or project needs.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise in the environmental, or physical sciences and experience in contributing to complex environmental studies for land use planning and environmental management. This position requires excellent communication, technical, and writing skills; attention to detail; and the ability to work independently and as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Opportunities for growth include development of client relationships, marketing and business development, and leading interdisciplinary teams on diverse projects.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Write and manage the preparation of complex NEPA documents for land use plans, energy development projects, projects related to water resources, and other infrastructure projects
  • Oversee and train junior staff on NEPA and other planning/environmental requirements
  • Perform agency consultation and ensure environmental regulatory compliance
  • Perform various business development functions, including proposal preparation and active involvement in industry and agency marketing outreach

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree a physical science (preferably geology, hydrology, or biology) or environmental science and 6 years of relevant NEPA or environmental planning experience or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications.

  • 8 - 12 years of environmental planning and NEPA experience
  • Specific resource expertise (e.g., hydrology, geology, biology, socioeconomics)
  • Working knowledge of NEPA, Clean Water (CWA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a large multi-disciplinary team; and organization, schedule and budget management skills
  • Experience working with federal land and water management agencies

Additional Information

  • Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation in Oregon will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $85,000 – $120,000.
