Department Overview

Systemwide HR Strategy & Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) provides strategic guidance to systemwide and location-based leadership related to legal and policy obligations, workforce planning, and equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging initiatives and best practices.

Position Summary

The Director of Executive Search & Recruitment is a strategic talent partner to senior executives. This person leads, manages and implements the executive search for senior level roles (Director and up to Senior Management Group Level 1). The positions that are under recruitment may be located at the Office of the President or any UC location. The incumbent is a forward and enterprise thinker who can develop proactive strategies to ensure we have the best talent in place. They will also focus on cultivating a broad and diverse talent pool and will develop, enhance, and lead executive recruitment initiatives, programs, metrics and reporting, and support systems and resources to continue building UC leadership pipelines. This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement within the state of California. The selected candidate must reside within the state of California or be willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

25% Partners with President’s office, regents’ office, Chancellors, cabinet members senior hiring managers and recruitment coordinators, business partners and chief human resource officers to execute the senior-level full life cycle recruitment process.

20% Through subordinate team members, facilitates and manages search committees as well as identifies, attracts and assesses top talent to work for the University of California.

20% Provides oversight and guidance of executive search firms as well as accepts feedback from the locations about the performance of these firms. Manage and facilitate executive search firms engagement process and use ensuring search firm accountability for all deliverables, meetings, interviews, and overall completion timeline.

15% Effectively manages unit staff, including developing individuals and providing cross training.

10% Oversees the executive search firm RFP process as well as the maintenance of the search firm database and the periodic reporting requirements on cost and usage of these search firms. Develop and report search firm usage ROI scorecard and metrics tools to ensure with UC stakeholder satisfaction and compliance with service level agreements.

10% Builds successful partnerships with network of external contacts and interacts in a highly collaborative manner with internal and external contacts on issues of significance in the area of leadership recruitment.

Required Qualifications

Experience utilizing an executive search firm to handle a search and the ability to manage them for effective use.

Demonstrated knowledge of employment law, diversity & outreach efforts, EEO/AA principles and appropriate application of them.

Thorough knowledge of organizational human resources policies and programs and budget / fiscal processes.

Innovative leadership and effective management skills.

Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.

Effective presentation skills to facilitate meetings and search committees.

Experience partnering with executive level client and partnering.

Proficiency with software programs Windows, Word, Excel and ATS systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the UC Senior Management Group recruitment process and the Regents' Chancellor search guidelines

Previous experience working in an executive search firm as a recruiter.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
