JOB SUMMARY:

The position of Fragrance Manager will primarily lead the fragrance management and fragrance programme for B&W. The individual will be single point of contact for China Business Unit in global fragrance network for Beauty & Wellbeing and will hold accountability for all fragrance related activities including Superiority, Complexity reduction, Capability development, Compliance, Sustainability. 

All brands across Haircare and Skin Care fall under the scope of this role. 

Fragrance experts work collaboratively across categories and regions in B&W. Global R&D teams, Procurement and Brand Teams will be key connections for this role.

Job Scope:

  • Lead fragrance program for B&W in China – work closely with the team to understand consumer, brand and business strategies. Define a clear ‘what’s needed’ from an olfactive and performance standpoint. Be the voice/nose of the consumer in the region.
  • Lead fragrance development for regional program for all brand across B&W.
  • Develop capabilities in China BU in line with local priorities & global framework. Develop an expert understanding of fragrance landscape in the region for Unilever and key competitors.
  • The individual will be SPOC from China BU in global fragrance network for Beauty & Wellbeing and will hold accountability for all fragrance related activities.

Job Description:

  • Able to work both independently and interdependently with the Category Innovation teams in a new Innovation context. 
  • They must work with other Unilever fragrance experts and lead fragrance houses and perfumers to guide them in the fragrance selection and creation process. Co-creation and working collaboratively ensuring we drive consumer delight and superiority for our brands.
  • Be the key contact for every stage of fragrance development in the region.
  • Work together with the cross functional team (Brand, CTI, CMI, R&D) to develop regional and brand fragrance strategy. Enforce strategy and ways of working for cross functional team and fragrance suppliers.
  • Manage regional fragrance portfolio and compliance requirements for fragrance, linking into global fragrance leads (CBFM’s).
  • Data analysis skills – Understand and interpret consumer test data to gain olfactive and product insights. Ideally be able to build regional Olfactive models to drive our understanding and innovation.
  • Digital Skills – able to utilize and/or help build a digital framework to capture data and structure data from the region.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the CBFMs in the fragrance development process and to share and adopt best practices.

Key Skills: 

Evaluation: Must have training and/or significant experience (8+ years) in one or more categories as a lead evaluator. Ideally some level of perfumer training and experience working with perfumers.

Leadership Skills: This job requires to work in a multi-stakeholder business environment. The candidate will need to be assertive and have exceptional communication skills.

Interdependent – work within a diverse network. Collaborate with other evaluators across the company to deliver the best innovation options and processes for the business.

Be Strategic: The candidate must understand brand strategy and proposition and apply strong fragrance strategies for current and future innovations to help our brands win in the marketplace. 

Winning Attitude: Our fragrances are a key driver for our products success. A passion and drive for creating winning fragrances is essential. 

Passionate Expert and Storyteller: The candidate must be fluent in the language of fragrance, bringing it alive for the brands and helping our partners develop the best fragrances possible.

A Teacher for the Team: The candidate must be able to teach everyone around them about the role of fragrance in consumer products, the technical challenges, and the global fragrance preferences and differences from one region to another. 

Key Interfaces: Brand, R&D, CTI, CMI, Procurement, CBFMs, Fragrance Suppliers.

Educational Qualification – MBA (Preferable) or Bachelors in technical fragrance field.

Experience- 

  • Evaluation training/Perfumery Training at least 8-10 years of experience on fragrance development at a fragrance house or as FM/ CBFM.
  • Solid evaluation training or experience ideally in multiple categories. 

Area of Specialization – Fragrance Development, Fragrance Portfolio Management, Fragrance Testing, Fragrance Compliance, Fragrance Communication.
