Primary Responsibilities

HDR is currently looking for a Project Controls Business Class Leader for the Utah Area. The Project Controls Business Class Leader will collaborate with the Transportation Business Group Manager, other Business Class leaders, project managers, local and national subject matter experts, business development and marketing teams to support the growth and development of our project controls practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills to oversee the project controls practice in Utah Area while providing guidance and mentorship to junior, mid-level, and senior professionals.

In the role of the Utah Project Controls Business Class Lead, we’ll count on you to:

  • Grow and manage a group consisting of project schedulers and cost estimators, and document control and data analytics professionals in close coordination with Utah Area Leadership.
  • Take responsibility for area coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of project controls staff to produce quality deliverables that meet client needs and market drivers, all within the direction and goals of the business class plans.
  • Support career development for project controls personnel through mentoring and identification of training opportunities.
  • Strengthen the project controls practice across all business groups.
  • Serve as a central knowledge resource for project controls trends and tools used to make project controls more versatile and efficient.
  • Coordinate and assist in identification and assignment of appropriate project controls staffing for projects, during both pursuit and execution phases of projects.
  • Manage and develop client base by identifying target clients, actively market and develop clients in coordination with Area operations and marketing. Engage in high profile project pursuits involving extensive client interactions in coordination with Utah Business Development Leader.
  • Plan, direct and monitor all aspects of project controls projects including but not limited to scheduling, data analytics, cost estimating and document controls.
  • Implement continuous improvement and quality measures into the project controls practice in alignment with the Quality Management System and national Project Controls best practices.
  • Coordinate with West Region Project Controls Lead and National Project Controls Directors as well as other Area and Regional Project Controls Leads and the broader project controls practice for purposes of workshare, knowledge sharing and fostering a community of practice.
  • Participate and provide input to the Annual Budgeting and Strategic Planning process in collaboration with Area, Regional, National, and Global leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in project controls work on engineering and construction projects, including planning, estimating, forecasting, scheduling, cost control, schedule control, and project reports.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience building a cohesive team culture and managing team members working on various local and national projects.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple long- and short-term tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Assist with proposal preparation, contract review and negotiation, client relationship and win strategy for traditional and alternative delivery projects.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Selected candidate for this role must reside in the defined HDR region noted.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction or engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years project controls experience. 
  • Certifications (one or more): PSP, PMP, PE, CM, EVP, PMI-SP, CST.
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules and estimates.
