We are excited for 5 interns to join our Hydro-JULES Internship programme! You can choose from five of our Hydro-JULES research projects (yes, you can apply for more than one!). Through this programme, you'll delve deep into the scientific research sector, gaining invaluable insights and skills that will shape your academic, professional, and personal growth. 

Our science makes a real difference, enabling people and the environment to prosper, and enriching society. For more than 60 years we have been collecting a wealth of environmental data.

If you are passionate about hydrology and environmental science, the Hydro-JULES Intern Programme is the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience and collaborate with our team of Hydro-JULES scientists. 

The Projects;

  • Project 1 - Understanding the influence of the North Atlantic on European river flows 
  • Project 2 - Characterising sub-seasonal to seasonal variability in extreme thunderstorms over India 
  • Project 3 - Assessing the performance of new Impact-based Flood Forecasting tools (Forecasting Verification Scientist) 
  • Project 4 - Quantifying water and carbon intensities of UK food and bioenergy production systems 
  • Project 5 - Exploring the use of satellite observations to improve wetland inundation modelling

Ready to Apply? We just a couple of things from you; 

  • A covering letter outlining your motivation for joining the programme and specifying the project(s) you're interested in, along with reasons for your choice 
  • A brief CV detailing your educational background, professional experience, and any publications you may have 
  • A letter of support from your supervisor, tutor, director of studies, or equivalent, confirming their approval for you to undertake the proposed summer internship 

To be eligible you will 

  • Currently be full-time at a university (from 2nd year undergraduate level upwards or pursuing a Master's degree) and intend to return to university after the placement. 
  • Hold the right to live and work in the UK throughout the placement duration. 
  • Studying a degree relevant to the field. 
  • Comfortable working independently with strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Act as a strong team player, comfortable both giving and receiving feedback openly. 

These internships are offered at our Wallingford site and will run from the 8th of July to the 16th of August 2024. You will receive c. £2,760 in total for the 6-week programme. We will be reviewing applications from Monday, 1st April 2024; we are expecting a lot of interest, so we recommend you apply early!
