The Team

The Channels & Audience Engagement team is responsible for managing and/or supporting the bulk of the foundation’s flagship and ELT channels, the foundation’s website, our email program, and our web-based storytelling platform, Ideas. Our work requires constant and close collaboration with stakeholders across and outside the foundation. Channels & Audience engagement sits within the broader Global Content & Campaigns team and, in turn, under the overarching Global Communications Division.

Your Role 

As the Associate Communications Officer – Social Media (Limited Term Employee "LTE") you will be a member of the Channels & Engagement team. You will also have a dotted line to the Discovery Center team.

  • This position is to be based in Seattle, WA or Washington, DC. 
  • This position is a limited-term position for 9 months. Relocation will not be provided. 

The ACO – Social Media (LTE) will spend approximately 50% of their time supporting the flagship social media channels and platform infrastructure and 50% of their time owning the social media channels for the foundation’s Discovery Center. 

In addition to knowledge of social media channels and enterprise tools for digital channel management (specifically Opal and Khoros), this position requires confirmed project and time management skills as well as the ability to work on multiple project strands and priorities at once. 

Strong candidates for this role will have successfully led social media channels for non-profits, cultural institutions, or other large organizations including experience managing; scheduling and posting content; developing content and social media plans; engaging in comments and conversations; and exploring—and testing—new tactics to engage audiences that span the foundation’s priority audiences (not broad public) and geographic locations. This is a limited-term position for 9 months and a backfill for the incumbent, who will be on parental leave during much of the specified time period. As part of the 9 months, we intend to allow an overlap with the incumbent during both on- and off-boarding. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Support overarching communications plans to maintain key advocacy and brand objectives while partnering closely with multiple inputters across Communications, Global Policy and Advocacy, co-chair private offices, and regional offices as needed.  
  • Contribute to the development of channel and content strategies across foundation-owned channels including web, Ideas, Optimist, and leadership and brand social media and partner with Channels and Engagement team to implement strategy.  
  • Support development of creative briefs as required, coordinating with various communications agencies to act as their primary point of contact for channel and media plans while working closely with content team to ensure the development of creative content.
  • Assist with overarching learning agenda and critical metrics in partnership with Measurement and Insights team.
  • Coordinate with cross-divisional content, brand, channels, and audience engagement teams in the development, revision, and/or refinement of advocacy communications and brand strategies.
  • Observe collaboration with diverse agencies/contractors to develop advocacy communications and brand content, ensuring clear and timely feedback.
  • Assist in conducting expansive, but rapid process, to ensure strategic alignment, clear voice, seamless global integration, and timely execution of brand campaign results across organization and partners.
  • Build the client-agency relationship including consolidating feedback and tracking work back plans.
  • Coordinate marketing planning with cross-functional team including channels, voice, regional offices, media, and advocacy.
  • Support inclusive culture through modeling behaviors and actions; advance issues promptly to appropriate partners. 

Your Experience 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated experience, preferably in communications, journalism, literature, public relations or political science.  
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of internal and external partners to incorporate new information and work towards appropriate decisions and reach desired outcomes.  
  • Basic knowledge of content and campaigns with a strong understanding of and experience communicating about complex global and domestic issues, including poverty, health, education, climate, and gender equality.  
  • Basic experience in an agency account management, creative producer, or marketing/communications role. 
  • Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.

The salary range for this role is $113,600 to $170,400 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $123,800 to $185,600 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
