Systems Support Engineer

About this role: 

We are looking for a Systems Support Engineer with experience in system administration and technical support. As a part of the Customer Experience and Support Team at Groq, you will be working closely with our Sales, Field, and Engineering teams to support customers and partners to ensure the entire technical experience with our products is outstanding. 

As a System Support Engineer, you will work with a support team that is passionate about bringing Groq’s groundbreaking AI/HPC hardware and software to developers around the world and have the opportunity to help build the future of the team!

Responsibilities & opportunities in this role:

  • Develop a deep understanding of Groq’s ML accelerator solutions and software offerings. 
  • Stay abreast of the industry standard machine learning development tool ecosystem.
  • Drive on-site software debug and qualification efforts using available tools to investigate, troubleshoot, and track technical issues until fully resolved. 
  • Engage directly with customers to ensure successful accelerator and server installations in addition to the best possible experience.
  • Manage the technical aspects of the customer design process from product evaluation into production including technical support and debug, escalation management, and program qualification efforts. 
  • Recommend product enhancements and contribute to engineering test and validation plans based on first-hand knowledge and usage.
  • Record all customer interactions and assist in the development of comprehensive and reusable self-service solutions for future incidents.
  • Provide in-depth technical training to key customers and partners as well as to the rest of the field organization. 
  • Lead solutions architecture discussions with strategic lead customers for Groq hardware, network, storage, manageability, and performance optimizations.
  • Coordinate across product, engineering, account management, and project management teams to ensure customer requirements and schedule needs are prioritized and remain on schedule. 
  • Develop customer messaging and coordinate recovery plans when unexpected schedule slips or issues occur.

Ideal candidates have/are:

  • Good programming skills, preferably with C/C++ and Python. 
  • Solid knowledge of Linux fundamentals, including device drivers, hypervisors, virtual machines, and communication between them and system and network profiling.
  • Solid knowledge of system administration, including security setup, device driver management, package management, and hardware and system interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of hardware concepts.
  • Strong communication skills and comfortable engaging directly with customers.
  • Experience with deploying systems with machine learning accelerators or graphics processors (GPUs) in large scale networks, networking, and software/hardware installation.
  • Host system virtualization and containerization for deploying multiple OSs and applications on a server using PCIe endpoint devices.
  • Development of Ansible roles to enable configuration management (OS and network).
  • Server hardware ecosystem at the node, rack and datacenter level.
  • Familiarity with CUDA and MLOps frameworks is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML, LLMs, vector databases, and semantic search.
  • The ability to learn and adapt!

Qualifications for this role:

  • BS in CS, CE, EE, Math, or Physics or equivalent work experience (within customer support and troubleshooting environments is a plus).
  • Deep understanding of GNU/Linux distributions and troubleshooting issues at the kernel and application level.
  • Experience developing for or supporting one or more HW acceleration products, i.e. ML, networking, security offload acceleration.
  • Customer first mindset. Driven to meet or exceed customer expectations, resolve issues expeditiously and, when possible, proactively. 
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring and cross-functional collaborative skills. 
  • Strong writer and communicator; operate with integrity and drive transparency, openness, and effective communication. 
  • Comfortable engaging directly with customers.
  • Able to work in a very dynamic start-up environment.
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations to support bring-up, debug, porting efforts and on-site customer deployments. Some roles may require up to 25% travel during peak on-site bring-up and support periods (i.e. one week per month). 
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. (racking hardware).

Compensation: The national pay range for our technical roles are $100,000-$500,000. The national pay range for our non-technical roles are $90,000-$470,000. Individual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience aligned with Groq’s internal leveling guidelines and benchmarks.

Location: Groq is a geo-agnostic company, meaning you work where you are. Exceptional candidates will thrive in asynchronous partnerships and remote collaboration methods. Some roles may require being located near our primary sites, as indicated in the job description.
