Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an opening for a Principal Low Observables Survivability Specialist or Sr Principal Low Observables Survivability Specialist to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located at Hill Air Force Base, UT in support of the F-35 Lightning II Program! 

The selected candidate will be an F-35 aircraft Supportable Low Observables (SLO) Field Support Engineer (FSE). The candidate will act as the Northrop Grumman technical interface and on-site company representative to the customer in resolving issues arising from operations, maintenance, modifications and other logistics and engineering support activities involving F-35 aircraft SLO and structure systems within established engineering guidelines. 

In this role, selected candidate will be expected to: 

  • Be a self-starter, work without direct supervision.
  • Integrate into a high tempo military operational environment.
  • Provide engineering and aircraft maintenance guidance to military and civilian maintainers and depot technicians and engineers with confidence and authority. 
  • Document maintenance activities, collate data to identify emerging failure trends and provide recommendations to reduce aircraft down time, improve maintenance practices and advise on LO and structures system maintenance tasks. 
  • Have knowledge and background in the field of Radio Frequency (RF) diagnostic and verification techniques for maintaining LO aircraft. 
  • Assist in operating LO diagnostic equipment, and with Signature Engineering support, ensure F-35 aircraft LO defects/repairs and modifications do not adversely impact Radar Cross-Section (RCS). 
  • Identify technical issues and recommend solutions to support the F-35 engineering disposition process and technical data updates. 
  • Manage, track multiple engineering and logistic support activities, and provide periodic status to customers and program management team. 
  • Provide authorized engineering products to supplement published engineering technical data. 
  • Combine engineering knowledge with real world maintenance experience.
  • Conduct training and provide product briefings to customers, vendors, and company representatives.
  • Support program technical interchange meetings and program plans development relating to problem analysis, engineering dispositions and in-house technical support.
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills and engage with aircraft maintainers on a regular basis to resolve maintenance issues that would otherwise lead to aircraft downtime.
  • Work any shift, weekends, overtime and holidays, if necessary, as well as travel on Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY's) to support F-35 program requirements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Principal Low Observable Survivability Specialist (Level 3): Must have a HS Diploma or a GED and 9 years of experience on LO aircraft. Will consider a bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5 years LO maintenance experience with military aircraft; Or, 3 years of experience with a master's degree.
  • Sr. Principal Low Observable Survivability Specialist (Level 4): Must have a HS Diploma or a GED and 13 years of experience on LO aircraft. Will consider a bachelor’s degree and minimum of 9 years LO maintenance experience with military aircraft; Or, 7 years of experience with a master's degree.
  • Have an active DOD Secret security clearance and ability to obtain a Special Access Program clearance. 
  • Must have a minimum 3-5 years of F-35 or F-22 aircraft LO experience. 
  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Office tools. 
  • Ability to read detailed engineering blueprints. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field.  
  • Experience with LO Diagnostic and/or Tier 2 RCS Equipment. 
  • Experience with corrosion control and repair methods.
  • Security+ Certification.
  • Prior Field Support or military customer support experience.
  • Working knowledge of engineering tools such as CATIA, VAS, PDM. 

Salary Range: $76,600.00 - $115,500.00Salary Range 2: $95,000.00 - $142,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
