UW Facilities (UWF) is one of the largest and most diverse administrative units on the Seattle campus supporting a large urban campus. UWF manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. Our teams can be organized into four main groups: Finance & Administration, Asset Management, Operations, and Business Intelligence.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Financial Analyst to be responsible for high-level financial data management and analysis. The Senior Financial Analyst position requires excellent skills in gathering, analyzing, and reporting financial data and other data, often originating from multiple sources. This position is an integral member of the Director’s Financial Analysis team and must be adaptable, flexible, and able to manage a high volume of work.

Position Complexities

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this position requires a knowledgeable, innovative, creative, highly motivated, team-oriented individual. A proactive and positive business approach focused on meeting current and future needs where metrics and knowledge derived from data will play a critical role in executive level decision-making. The senior analyst must meet challenges with resourcefulness and innovation, respond effectively when dealing with tight deadlines, be proactive, and work as a collaborative team member with other senior financial analysts and managers. Additionally, must be able to work with a variety of staff and managers at various levels across UWF and be adept at developing summary information at the appropriate level of detail for various audiences.

Position Dimensions and Impact to the University

UWF is the largest administrative unit on campus with a diverse set of responsibilities. The complexities of multiple funding sources, cost allocations, and many business units within UWF requires a financial professional who can span from detailed analyses to developing big picture presentations. This individual must develop an in-depth knowledge of the complexities surrounding UWF and financial data to provide accurate and pertinent analyses.

This position is an integral member of the UWF Finance & Administration team and must be adaptable, flexible, and able to manage a high volume of work. A team-oriented approach is essential, coupled with a proactive and positive business approach focused on meeting current and future needs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

High- level analyst position responsible for financial data management and analysis with primary focus on supporting UWF Finance & Administration leadership. Requires excellent skills in gathering, analyzing, and reporting financial data, often originating from multiple sources. Position requires an innovative, creative, highly motivated, team-oriented individual. Requires a proactive and positive business approach focused on meeting current and future needs where data and knowledge derived from data will play a critical role in executive level decision-making.

Financial Analysis (50%)

  • Requires detailed knowledge of data mining within UW Financial Systems, including Workday, and UWF systems and in-depth understanding of how to interpret and use data to produce viable and accurate financial reports.
  • Able to adapt to fundamental changes to the UW's financial data structure, including Workday.
  • Requires the ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with AVP Finance and Administration and Director level positions across UWF.
  • Requires deep knowledge of UW funding sources to analyze total sources and uses of funds at an organizational level as well as at a more granular UWF unit level.
  • Must be able to understand varying operational models quickly and apply financial analysis expertise to assist in decision making.
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of software programs to maintain document credibility.
  • Use advanced features of applications such as Excel, SQL Server analysis tools, Tableau, Access and/or other similar applications to extract and analyze large volumes of data, to include formatting to suit specific projects and audiences. Use advanced tools to improve and enhance current reporting and identify new reporting opportunities.
  • Use UW system tools including accounting systems, HR systems, central office databases, cubes and our data warehouse to extract and download system data for analysis.
  • Partner with UWF Business Intelligence and Information Technology staff to access database applications and other programming applications as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Financial Reporting (40%)

  • Develop custom reports using Workday and UWF systems to meet the operational needs of the organization. In conjunction with the Director of Finance, partner with UWF unit leaders to understand their business needs and provide reporting to drive business decisions.
  • Maintain the deferred maintenance database of over 2 billion dollars and develop reporting used for long term projections and decisions. Partner with UWF staff to keep the database current and updated with economic projections.
  • Provide the VP and AVPs financial analysis and reporting used for Executive and Board of Regents level presentations.
  • Develop complex business models to analyze scenarios for business decisions. In conjunction with Director of Finance In develop modeling options and provide financial guidance for decisions.

Process Improvements (10%)

  • Continually identify opportunities for improvement or gaps in business processes across UWF by working with the Director of Finance and engaging with unit leaders to understand their needs and concerns.
  • Ensure that Workday financial workflows are implemented efficiently within the organization and identify areas needing improvement.
  • In partnership with Director of Finance work on financial process improvement projects impacting units in UWF. 
  • Develop solutions to improve processes and develop materials to manage the change.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field.
  • Five or more years’ experience in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office software suite, with a strong background in Excel.
  • Strong data mining skills.
  • Management and supervision of employees, including correlative responsibilities including hiring, training, and daily management.
  • A record of accomplishment of successfully managing multiple financial analysis projects and delivering financial reporting on a schedule.
  • Ability to lead meetings and provide Executive-level leadership with presentable data for a wide range of audiences.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity and ownership needed; must be customer-focused and results-oriented.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

  • CPA
  • Working knowledge of the UW financial accounting systems.
  • Familiarity with a variety of UW systems and policies, especially related to finance.
  • Demonstrated success with management of internal service functions and/or program management in an institutional environment.
