TechnoServe in Botswana implements an enterprise development program called Tokafala, which focuses on helping existing micro, small and medium enterprises in Botswana to grow their businesses. Tokafala offers the following:

  • Entrepreneurship training
  • Personalised business mentorship covering all aspects of business
  • Market access support
  • Youth Entrepreneurship Development

Position Description:

The Business Advisor will be responsible for providing high quality mentorship and advisory services to small and medium enterprises that are participating in the Enterprise Development and Supplier Development programs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship and advisory services to those enterprises that have been assigned to him/her by the hub manager, for both small and medium enterprises.
  • Support entrepreneurs in the development of loan applications if selected to apply
  • Support planning for advisory cycles for small business and provide advisory workshops
  • Support the Hub Manager in defining and rolling out the marketing and promotion of the program,
  • including pro-actively sourcing new applicants
  • Interact with stakeholders, program partners and other parties in line with Tokafala’s objectives
  • and any existing agreements
  • Conduct diagnostics, baselines and impact assessments as required
  • Represent the program and its partners as needed.
  • Keep timely and accurate records of mentorship and advisory provided
  • Ensure adherence to branding guidelines established by the Tokafala program and partners
  • Participate in diagnostic assessments and work with the SMME to develop or adjust their business plans.
  • Mentor SMMEs to implement their business plans and become contract-ready. This may include
  • assistance in securing financing that suppliers need to deliver on orders.
  • Offer go-between services for companies and suppliers as they navigate the procurement
  • process towards a mutually beneficial agreement.
  • Database management (capturing of clientele information on a regular basis)
  • Help enterprises deepen their understanding of the demands of their targeted market(s) and adjust their product and marketing plans accordingly. In some cases, the VC analyses may identify unmet needs or potential in the market, which BAs will support enterprises to pursue.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Program Manager and the Program Director.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years’ experience or Master’s Degree with 1-year experience in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or other relevant area
  • Proven ability to develop business plans
  • Ability to quickly grasp the financial health and business needs of a company
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Computer Skills (MS Office)
  • Private sector experience and deep knowledge of Botswana’s business environment
  • Experience in mentoring
