What will you do in this position?

In close collaboration with the ETC team in Kyiv, a Telecommunications Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the ETC telecommunication and IT infrastructure in the area of operation covered by Odesa.

You will be trained in various technologies and processes used by WFP. If you have a background and some experience in telecommunication, information technology, or computer networks and are eager to learn, we encourage you to apply.

It is inflicting untold suffering on civilians, displace families, and disrupt supply chains and food production. It has caused one of the fastest forced population movements since the Second World War. Close to 6 million Ukrainians are still living as refugees across Europe, and almost 5.1 million are internally displaced. Many have lost their homes and livelihoods. As food production and supply lines are disrupted by fighting, many families in the east and south do not have reliable access to nutritious food. 

WFP uses a flexible mix of food and cash assistance to support communities affected by the war wherever they are. This includes working with local partners to distribute food rations in areas near the frontline and providing cash transfers wherever people have access to banks and markets to buy food. Since March 2022, WFP has distributed food and cash assistance equivalent to 2.4 billion meals to families displaced and affected by the war, partnering directly with local responders.

How can you make a difference?

In this position, you will have to: 

  • With technical guidelines and support from the ETC team, perform installation and maintenance of telecommunication and IT equipment as required. 
  • Provide technical support to users for hardware and software-related problems. This involves troubleshooting ad-hoc user problems. 
  • In close coordination with the ETC team, plan the deployment of telecommunication and IT infrastructure. 
  • Validate technical installations done by third-party service providers. 
  • Perform regular maintenance of telecom and IT infrastructure. 
  • Evaluate existing IT and telecoms infrastructure propose improvements and organize upgrades accordingly. 
  • Provide technical training to staff on the operation of technical equipment and procedures. 
  • Perform other related duties as required. 

To join us in saving lives, changing lives, you will have:

Education: Completion of secondary education. University degree and/or training/courses in one or more of the following disciplines: Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or related discipline. 

Experience: Minimum six (6) years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in the related field of Telecommunications or IT. Post-secondary education can compensate for some years of experience. For example, you will be considered as eligible if you have: 

  • Three (3) years of work experience in combination with a Master’s Degree; 
  • Four (4) years of work experience in combination with a Bachelor’s Degree. 

Experience of working with telecommunication systems such as VHF radios, microwave links or VSAT will be an added advantage. 

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Windows, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and other related software. 
  • Good analytical skills, resourcefulness, and initiative. 
  • Motivated to learn new skills in IT, telecommunication systems and infrastructure. 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and provide support to the users. 
  • Requires the ability to work under pressure and on multiple tasks.

Language: Fluency (level C) in both in English and Ukrainian languages.
