Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for current and future openings for the following positions: Principal Budget Analyst, Senior Budget Analyst, or Budget Analyst 1 or 2.

Principle Budget Analyst

The Principal Budget Analyst develops and balances state appropriated annual operating budgets and non-appropriated institutional self-supporting budgets from $200M or more. This position is responsible for all of UNR’s budgetary reporting to NSHE and State. In addition, the individual is expected to develop and/or act as a lead for divisional special projects due to subject matter expertise and maintain a specialty function. The position work independently on highly complex or strategic assignments; May direct and delegate work to other budget analysts.

Senior Budget Analyst

The Senior Budget Analyst develops and balances state appropriated annual operating budgets and non-appropriated institutional self-supporting budgets from $105M. The position maintains a significant role in analysis and reporting of budgetary status. In addition, the individual is expected to develop and/or act as a lead for divisional special projects due to subject matter expertise and maintain a specialty function. The position work independently on highly complex or strategic assignments; direct supervise classified staff and may delegate work to budget analyst. This position may work with the budget/strategic planning analyst on Wolf Pack Strategic 2023-2027 with modified responsibilities.

Budget Analyst 2

The Budget Analyst 2 is responsible for managing self-supporting and state budget preparation, comprehensive position lists, analysis, and related reporting. Responsible for managing from $90 million budget throughout the year by ensuring fund/department balances avoid deficits and ensuring department revenue/expenses are booked appropriately. This position works under general supervision, while performing assignments that are varied and that may be somewhat difficult in character, but usually involve limited responsibility.

Budget Analyst 1

The Budget Analyst 1 supports the PBA’s Office by recording and reviewing accounting transactions, reconciling and analyzing accounts, preparing special reports, and serving as the back-up for day-to-day operational financial activities. Responsible for managing from $25 million budget throughout the year by ensuring fund/department balances avoid deficits and ensuring department revenue/expenses are booked appropriately. This position works under direct and frequent supervision while performing routine duties using established procedures with detailed instructions.

Required Qualifications

Principle Budget Analyst

Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience; OR

Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience

Related Experience: in a large public sector environment (i.e., college, university, state budget office, city/county with a population >200,000 or publicly traded company) which includes preparation, analysis and presentation of financial data to senior management and external organizations or related.

Senior Budget Analyst

Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience; OR

Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience

Related Experience: in a large public sector environment (i.e., college, university, state budget office, city/county with a population >200,000 or publicly traded company) which includes preparation, analysis and presentation of financial data to senior management and external organizations or related.

Related Experience: budgeting or financial management to include preparation, analysis and presentation of financial data to management or related.

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience; OR

Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related professional work experience

Related Experience: Budgeting or financial management to include preparation, analysis and presentation of financial data to management or related.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
