WHO YOU ARE:

Seeking an IT professional with technical writing skills who would like to put their experience and interest to work producing high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of the IT Division. The ideal candidate will have experience with composing, reviewing, illustrating, and editing technical documents, materials, and reports. Must have the ability to communicate in a professional, customer-focused manner.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The IT Technical Writer is selected by and accountable to the Performance Analytics Manager with the approval of the IT Scheduled Releases Director, Deputy Chief Information Officer of Applications Solutions and Chief Information Officer. Performs advanced to highly advanced (senior-level) technical writing work. Work involves coordinating the composition, organization, and editing of compiled information. May oversee the work of others. Works under limited to minimal supervision, with considerable to extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Maintains a reliable, predictable work schedule. May be called upon to work outside of normal business hours to sustain operations or complete urgent assignments.

YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:

  • Develop and maintain the IT Handbook including composing standard operating policies and procedures (SOPs) and other technical documents
  • Responsible for all phases of document generation including research, writing, customer verification, incorporating updates and delivery.
  • Coordinate meetings and collaborate with internal subject matter experts to collect and interpret input.
  • Receives requests, plans and organizes work, and reports progress to management.
  • May serve as backup to the manager and other team members.
  • Actively participates in maintaining and providing input to the departmental dashboard.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, policies, and procedures including IT Handbook and SOPs that govern TWC IT.
  • Contributes to teamwork and communicate effectively.
  • Promotes an image of IT excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:

  • 3-5 years' experience producing high-level documentation in a technology environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with IT concepts for applications development, infrastructure services, technology procurements, and project management.
  • Skill writing and/or editing technical or business documents.
  • Skill communicating with professional staff to develop positive effective working relationships and establish credibility, trust and confidence.
  • Experience conducting high-level research with significant independence.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality documentation paying attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex concepts and make them easier to understand in text and graphics.
  • Ability to produce appropriate documentation for the intended audience.
  • Ability to write user friendly operating procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and successfully manage multiple overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive, work independently, and effectively manage your time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing and on the telephone.
  • Skilled at building strong customer relationships with excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge of Texas State Government structure and the Texas Legislative process.

YOU QUALIFY WITH:

  • Technical Writer II: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, English, education, or a related field

is required plus one year of full-time experience in technical writing, journalism, or communications work. 

  • Technical Writer III: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, English, education, or a related field is required plus two years of full-time experience in technical writing, journalism, or communications work.
  • Both Levels: One year of full-time qualifying experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of education.
