Job Description

The purpose of this job is to manage the daily transportation operations within one of the company’s regions, while ensuring that Pilot Company drivers comply with all federal, state, local, and company policies and procedures.

In this role you will: 

  1. Oversee, lead, and set priorities for a team of Lead Drivers and Drivers in a region
  2. Interview, select, coach, train, and develop direct reports, to include appraising job performance and conducting performance reviews
  3. Provide safety training for all Drivers to ensure implementation of Pilot Company safety and operational procedures including regular driver observations and deliver appropriate progressive discipline up to and including termination
  4. Partner with Fleet Maintenance and Lead Driver to ensure equipment maintenance compliance with environmental, safety, and legal regulations
  5. Manage the region’s budget to meet financial and operational goals
  6. Execute strategic initiatives for both the region and the company that align with company goals; define objectives for regional implementation and attainment
  7. Collaborate with other Transportation Regional Managers to address challenges; provide feedback on operational issues and solutions to upper management
  8. Review, approve and process equipment maintenance invoices and Driver payroll for the region
  9. Complete daily and weekly reporting on safety-related incidents and staffing needs

Compensation: $120,000 - $130,000 + Annual Bonus

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate required
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred
  • Minimum five years’ prior experience in the trucking industry preferred
  • Minimum five years’ experience in logistics operations (dispatch, routing, load planning, optimization), preferably in truckload, LTL, or tanker preferred
  • Minimum three years’ prior experience as a driver-supervisor of a large team preferred
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to motivate and lead a diverse team
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and situation analysis skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize based upon immediate and long-term needs of the region and company
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to manage projects related to company goals and initiatives
  • Financial acumen and experience related to budgets
  • Travel required up to 100%***

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Periodic exposure to diesel, gasoline, and crude oil
  • Work area environment includes fuel drop areas, trucks, trailers, and fuel hauling equipment
  • Exposure to a variety of weather conditions and temperatures
  • Available to work evenings and odd hours as needed
  • Climb in and out of tractor-trailer units on a daily basis
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Stand for extended time periods
