Org. Setting and Reporting

This Position is located in the Aviation section within the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The Fire Safety Assistant will be based in Malakal and will report directly to the OIC Malakal Air Region.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Fire Safety Assistant will carry out the following duties: •Installation, inspection and maintenance of UNMISS fire-fighting equipment and materials as well as ensuring the integrity of all fire safety equipment and materials at Malakal airfield/Helicopter Landing site. . Extinguish and suppress and suppress all fires that may break out at or in the vicinity of Malakal airfield or Helicopter landing site by using UNMISS fire-fighting equipment. . Assist in conducting fire investigations to establish causes of fire and make appropriate preventive recommendations for future use. . Carry out surveys at airfields/helipads as per the recommendation of UNMISS Aviation Fire Marshal . Keep records of all fire-fighting equipment and materials at Malakal airfield and advise UNMISS Aviation Fire Marshal on improvement, replenishment and replacement of fire-fighting equipment, materials and chemicals whenever required. . In consultation with the planning officer, the incumbent will assist in assigning air operation tasks to the appropriate aircraft and crews in such manner as to ensure safe, efficient, reliable, flexible and cost-effective air support operations. . Assist in establishing, maintaining and updating Air Operations Flight Planning. . Assist in ensuring a timely flow of all information related to air mission requests from all stakeholders. . Assists with the coordination of the Foreign Object Debris (FOD) activities at airfields and air terminals. . Assists in ensuring that aircrafts are properly parked. . Assist in receiving Special Flight requests as directed by the planning officer and or the Chief Air Operations officer. . Assist in providing weather reports to all crew when requested. . Carry out any other duties as directed by Air Operations Officer Malakal Air Region.

Job - Specific Qualification

A Valid driving license for cars and heavy-duty trucks with a safe driving record is required. A technical or vocational certificate in aero firefighting from a recognized institution is desirable.

Work Experience

At least 3 years of Aero Fire fighter experience or related fields are required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Languages

Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of other south Sudanese languages is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include Comptency Based Interview and other assessment methods.
