THE ROLE:

AMD is looking for a talented individual to join the Wired IP and Solutions Group (WISG) as a leader in the Silicon Design Engineering, you will lead our System on Chip (SoC) design team, where numerous subsystems and IP cores are integrated to produce high performance SoC products. You will lead a team of designers working on SoC level RTL design, block level RTL design, and/or subsystem level integration for a variety of SoC products. You will drive the team to deliver industry leading SoC ASIC projects targeting networking, security, storage, and other applications.

THE PERSON:

You are an experienced technical manager with a strong background in modern digital ASIC design. You are skilled at driving a technical team from project start to completion to deliver superior on-time results. You are detail-oriented and possess strong communication, leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving skills. You are a self-starter with a desire to learn and an ability to solve complex, novel, and non-recurring problems. You have strong managerial skills to effectively lead a growing design team to perform to their highest potential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a team of digital design engineers to ensure on time delivery of SoC ASIC products
  • Provide hands on technical leadership, guidance in IP functionality and design methodology, and responsibility for projects of strategic importance to AMD’s roadmap
  • Develop plans, schedule tasks and track progress toward agreed milestones to maintain aggressive development timelines
  • Prepare and clearly communicate regular project status to next level management, including design quality metrics, milestone convergence, project risks, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Lead internal meetings to resolve technical issues and co-ordinate technical work with partner teams
  • Generate and maintain project budgets, allocate design resources, and optimize development to meet project timelines and financial goals
  • Work in close collaboration with design engineering teams, managers, and directors on various efforts involved in SoC development
  • Drive core pieces of the SoC design process, from concept to production to ensure high-quality and innovative solutions
  • Track industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in SoC design to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge
  • Work with external suppliers and vendors to source IP and maintain relationships for successful SoC delivery
  • Coach and mentor experienced staff
  • Hire and attract top talent and foster a collaborative team culture

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven number of years of experience managing and leading front-end design teams through delivery of complex digital IP blocks and SoCs
  • Experience as a people manager with ability to effectively manage a design team
  • Project management and task planning experience for a design team of 10 or more direct and/or indirect reports
  • Demonstrated leadership of an engineering team with proficiency in providing growth and guidance initiatives and delivering performance feedback
  • Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration as well as leadership of IP design teams from concept/feasibility phase to production
  • Proven design experience of commercially successful IPs, subsystems and/or SoCs
  • Strong knowledge of IP front-end development processes, EDA tools, flows and methodologies and life cycle in an IP/SoC workflow
  • Experience integrating hard IP and soft IPs including industry standard and proprietary interfaces
  • Real-time management experience in a dynamic engineering environment
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication, time management, and presentation skills
  • Understanding of standard bus/interface protocols (i.e. AXI, AHB, AMBA)
  • Familiarity with networking protocols (such as Ethernet) and standards for digital communication systems, optical communications, and packet processing applications
  • Familiarity with encryption protocols (such as MACsec and IPsec) and security technologies for digital communication systems

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering
