We’re Looking For:

OPENLANE is seeking an experienced Sr. Product Designer to help craft efficient and usable experiences for our B2B customers facing digital auction platform. Our Product Design team is a part of our Digital Marketplaces organization, focused on delivering to market with as much impact as possible, and as quickly as possible. You’ll have direct impact on shaping our products, our strategies, and contribute to our growth. Working closely with product managers and engineers, you’ll conduct user research, prototype and test, iterate, and deploy rapidly. You’ll report into the OPENLANE design team Director, based in Toronto, Ontario.

You Are: 

  • A Sr. Product Designer is responsible for multiple projects of their own, as well as supporting other Product Designers and process enhancements.
  • You function as a thought leader, contributing to strategy and looking for process improvement opportunities.
  • Your contributions include product design strategy, market trend identification, and deep understanding of both customer and operational needs. 
  • The Sr. Product Designer is a customer advocate and domain expert who provides leadership on the most complex projects.
  • Sr. Product Designers bring deep customer understanding and best practice knowledge to the design community in a formalized and deterministic way. 
  • Sr. Product Designers act as the Voice of the User in all settings, advocating not just for tactical user needs but also the larger value of product design to the business.
  • You provide thought leadership and design education for stakeholders across the organization.
  • You have the ability to turn analytics, user verbatims, and other inputs into highly relevant insights and find ways to act on these insights, translate ideas into product designs, and utilize the energy of teams across the company to bring these designs into fruition for customers and employees. 
  • Sr. Product Designers provide input to help shape our product vision and roadmaps, define the principles and design framework that allow designers to efficiently and effectively support many teams and projects simultaneously. 

You Will:

  • Work with Product Managers to conduct discovery, user research to understand the needs of your users made up of teams from across North America, and determine which tools are needed and how best to design them.
  • Work closely with engineers to translate your solutions into practical experiences, and understand the platforms you’re working in from top to bottom.
  • Create and test prototypes to understand if your hypothesis meets the needs of your users, and rapidly iterate.
  • Work on solutions to support both mobile and desktop platforms, ensuring the ideal experience is delivered to your users – regardless of platform.
  • Generate and improve upon the assets which make up our various customer-facing platforms.
  • Get to know our products and their features inside out, advocating for the best possible user centric solutions to complex problems.
  • Contribute to the growth of the design community within the team, helping with knowledge and skill sharing activities, and being a passionate advocate for design within the organization.
  • Generate relevant UX artifacts to document your design process and share with stakeholders to bring them along.
  • Lead ideation and contribute to overall experience design, which involves planning information architecture, helping define business rules, and design interactions.
  • Analyze industry best practices, client feedback, new vendor offerings, learnings from metrics tracking, and market competitive analyses.

Must Have’s:

  • 7+ years prior professional experience in a UX-design specific role
  • Highly proficient in UX design- Is recognized as a SME within the organization. Applies UX best practices & creates relevant artifacts for socializing (journey maps, affinity maps, etc.).
  • Related college or university degree – digital design or HCI major
  • Experience executing a successful online customer experience. This includes experience with visual design, information architecture, interaction patterns
  • Experience working closely with development on time estimates and feature trade-offs
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and provide marketable solutions in conceiving, developing, and producing tactics.
  • In-depth knowledge of web and mobile applications experience required
  • Ability to work independently, with a disciplined and organized approach
  • Fast-prototyping and testing

Nice to Have’s:

  • B2B industry experience would be a plus
  • Have a portfolio that demonstrates your proven ability to deliver real solutions into the wild
  • Working within a large SaaS Organization 
  • Experience with both large and small scale mobile projects (full project lifecycle – would be an asset)
  • Agile experience a plus

  • Salary range of $110,000-$140,000 depending on experience, skill set, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
