Social Media Assistant, Marketing and Communication

Responsibilities:

The Digital Engagement team within The New School’s Marketing & Communications department manages the university’s numerous social media channels. The team uses these channels, which include Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok, to engage with prospective and current students, showcase the work of New School community members, and promote the university to new audiences.

Reporting to the Senior Digital Content Producer (Social Media), the Social Media Assistant position is a part-time, Hybrid (some on-campus work required) graduate student position that will support content development, production, and publishing for The New School’s social media channels. The social media landscape is constantly evolving, and this person will also be expected to assist in keeping up with new trends, platforms, and changes that arise.

This is a part-time, hourly position with a weekly schedule of 10-20 hours per week, beginning shortly as soon as possible in the Spring 2024 semester.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the Digital Content Producer, support the day-to-day content development and creation for The New School’s social media channels, which includes, but is not limited to:
  • Photography (DSLR and Mirrorless camera shooting)
  • Video production and editing
  • Creation and editing of graphics
  • Social media management (posting, monitoring comments and DMs)
  • Social media strategy
  • Work collaboratively with staff and other student assistants in content creation: gathering/sharing original content ideas, curating video and image assets, and writing captions.
  • Research new, evolving social media platforms and changes to current platforms and report findings back to the digital engagement team.

WORK MODE

Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (1-2/week) and also work some of the time remotely.

HOURLY RATE

$18.00 per hour

Start Date: February 1, 2024

Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current New School Graduate student.
  • Experience in social media management and strong knowledge of the social media platforms The New School is currently using.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using Google Suite, and Adobe Suite.
  • Experience on set, DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, and audio equipment.
  • Experience with photography and photo editing using Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • Design capabilities to do graphics for social media using Canva, Illustrator and/or Photoshop.
  • High video editing experience capabilities with Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Detail-oriented multi-tasker who thrives under tight deadlines and quick turnarounds.
