LCRA Transmission Technical Support Group (TSG) group is seeking an intern for the summer of 2023. As an intern in TSG, you will work under the direction of the Energy Management System (EMS)/Supervisory Control and Dada Acquisition (SCADA) engineers while they strive to continuously improve the models and analytical tools for the reliability of the electrical grid. You will be exposed to advanced EMS/SCADA software platforms and access complex real-time transmission & substation operation models for control room situational awareness enhancement projects. The ideal intern candidate has not only an interest in utility and control room environment, but a passion for improving the electrical grid and reliability. Preference to majors including electrical and power engineering, but other engineering majors are open to consideration.

You will be trusted to:

  • Work with the EMS/SCADA team to develop or enhance the Control Room Situational Awareness displays with analytical visualization capabilities.
  • Develop or improve workflow automation scripts to improve SCADA modeling efficiency and database change accuracy.
  • Develop new SQL queries to facility EMS data retrieval and analysis.
  • Perform new EMS upgrade software acceptance testing

You qualify with:

  • In the freshman year of a post-graduate degree program at an accredited college or university, with some advanced coursework related to the internship.

You are a great fit with:

  • Prior exposure to fundamental power system analysis courses
  • Current Undergraduate Senior or Graduate Student majoring in Electrical Engineering in undergraduate or graduate level
  • Basic programing skills with Python or equivalent scripting languages
  • Basic knowledge in Oracle databases and SQL Plus commands
  • Good at data engineering & analysis
