A Day in the Life

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and data related to reported failures. You will perform detailed failure analyses by utilizing investigative techniques such as the "Cause Map" or Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to uncover underlying issues. Your role also involves analyzing trends in reported failures to identify potential areas of improvement. Collaborating with product owners and design teams to integrate reliability enhancements and effectively communicating investigation outcomes to stakeholders will be key aspects of your responsibilities. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and investigate failures in the surgical robotic system, apply root cause analysis to identify failure modes
  • Support the process of finding effective solutions to identified issues and collaborate with investigation teams to implement corrective measures
  • Monitor and analyze the frequency and types of failures to create trends and patterns for assessing severity of impact to determine priority of investigations
  • Contribute to the improvement of the triage process, suggest enhancements for more efficient issue identification
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to address cross-functional issues
  • Collaborate with field service engineers, share insights and expertise to facilitate efficient on-site troubleshooting and resolution
  • Maintain detailed documentation of investigations, diagnostics, and solutions for future reference and continuous improvement 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 4 years of working experience or Master's degree with 2 years of working experience in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field
  • Proven experience in the design, development, and maintenance of robotic or mechatronic systems, preferably in the medical device industry
  • Strong knowledge of various network protocols and typical devices used in robotic control systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Strong critical thinking skills applied to data analysis
  • Ability to approach failure data with a systematic and thorough analytical mindset
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and adaptation
  • Employ proactive approach to staying abreast of emerging trends, tools, and methodologies

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience with troubleshooting and diagnostics in a robotic system
  • Ability to analyze captured data, identify patterns, and draw meaningful conclusions to diagnose failures
  • Previous experience in failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)
  • Familiarity with failure analysis methods, such as fault tree, cause map, 5-why, to systematically identify and address issue
  • Knowledge of network protocols: Ethernet, EtherCat, I2C, RS232, RS422
  • Proficient in using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, network analyzers, power analyzers, signal generators to effectively diagnose and address issues related to various network protocols
  • Experience with digital and analog electronic design
  • Experience with typical sensors used in robotic systems, such as position, force, torque, and temperature sensors
  • Understanding of various motor technologies, including Brush/Brushless DC motors and AC motors
  • Familiarity with motor drive technologies, including control strategies and feedback systems
  • Understanding of the principles behind power supply technologies, including switch mode, linear, and DC-DC converters
  • Proficiency in programming languages, such as python, C++, Matlab/Simulink, SQL, relevant to embedded systems
  • Familiarity with Linux operating system
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for medical devices

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
