A Day in The Life

Located in the Medtronic office in North Haven, CT, Boston, MA, or Wessling, Germany, as a Principal Embedded Software Engineer you will lead and participant in the embedded software development efforts as part of the Software group within the Robotic Surgical Technologies R&D Center of Excellence. This role requires working closely with electrical engineers and other embedded software engineers while collaborating with a large cross functional team to achieve project objectives. This role includes but isn’t limited to informing architecture decisions, requirements generation, developing embedded product software, hardware testing, BSP development, driver development, and unit testing. 

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience 

Nice to Have: 

As an ideal candidate, you will have any or all of the following experience: 

  • Experience with embedded system development
  • Experience in developing and commercializing medical products with embedded software 
  • Experience programming with ARM processors, Xilinx Zynq SoC or ARM A9 is ideal 
  • Experience with IEEE 802.3 Ethernet MAC and PHY 
  • Experience with communication data protocols (such as TCP/UDP/IP, EtherCAT, etc.) 
  • Experience with motor control applications 
  • Experience developing bare metal code for microcontrollers 
  • Ability to use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers 
  • Experience with software development interfaces to FPGA based program logic is a plus 
  • Experience collaborating with external vendors 
  • Experience with writing unit and integration tests for embedded software 
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum/SAFe software development methodology 
  • Solid understanding and appreciation of SDLC process and tools (JIRA, Git, JAMA, etc.) 
  • Experience with CMake and automated build systems such as Bamboo is a plus 
  • Experience in a regulated industry (medical device or avionics) is preferred 

Working Conditions: 

This position is based out of North Haven, CT, or Boston, MA, or Wessling, Germany, with the option to work up to 2 days per week remotely. 

Travel 

Yes, < 25 % of the time.
