Chief Health Officer

Directly reporting to the CEO, the Chief Health Officer will lead the organization’s Enterprise Medical Teams including primary care, behavioral health, physical therapy, health coaching, occupational health services, and patient safety & quality assurance. The ideal candidate will be based in our downtown Indianapolis office. The CHO has a core focus in developing and expanding on our philosophy of care, engaging our clinical teams in shared core values, advancing our clinical service & product offerings, and leading clinical quality. They will serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.

Champion our population health management care model

Marathon Health practices one of the most advanced primary care models in the country, pairing population health management with compassionate, patient-oriented care. The CHO will lead the advancement of this model and further our achievement of the Quadruple Aim, by: empowering world class teams, creating amazing member experiences, improving health outcomes, and lowering costs of healthcare.

  • Offer deep expertise in evidence-based population health management.
  • Be a visionary for our value-based care model.
  • Lead and build trust among physicians, advanced practice providers, and other clinical staff.
  • Evangelize our care model with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal experts in improving processes, systems and policies that improve patient care.
  • Manage the quality and scope of care across our national health centers and virtual care offering.
  • Oversee the strategic direction of patient safety & quality assurance programs and policies designed to prevent patient harm.

Advance our strategy and continuously innovate

  • Help shape long-range planning and the development of scalable organizational goals, strategic plans, and objectives, including the development of new clinical services.
  • Lead discrete strategic initiatives that are prioritized on our roadmap.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for growth, strategy, and product efforts.
  • Be a strong clinical thought leader to help position Marathon as a national leader in innovative advanced primary care with clients, prospects and strategic partners.

Qualifications

  • Must be a licensed primary care Physician: MD or DO required.
  • Current and unrestricted licensure nationally and current Board Certification with preference for Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health or related field preferred.
  • Experience as a CHO, CMO or equivalent role in a national, multi-site clinical service organization required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in evidenced-based population health management and value-based care.
  • 10+ years of clinical practice in primary care.
  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare leadership including direct management of collaborative care teams including physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health specialists, physical therapists, and other clinical professionals.
  • Exceptional communication skills with both clinical and non-clinical audiences, decisive prioritization, and ability to formulate and maintain challenging decision, i.e. say no.
  • Have a strong growth mindset, and customer service orientation.
  • Mission-driven; highly collaborative, high IQ/EQ mix.
  • Proven track record of leading successful change management specific to clinical professionals.
  • Familiar with comparative payment and reimbursement models and able to develop creative financial methodologies that align incentives and drive improvement.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-growth, dynamic environment and the excitement at the challenge of building a business with ambitious goals
  • Demonstrated experience developing scalable, evidence-based clinical processes, care management protocols, health transformation efforts, and directly implementing and evaluating them across care delivery contexts
  • Significant participation in community and social service initiatives, especially ones serving disadvantaged and underrepresented populations.
