We’re looking for Senior User Interface Designer to join our growing Design System team. It’s a chance to help grow dunnhumby’s Design team and culture of innovation and to work with a market-leading business to explore new opportunities for us and influence global retailers and brands.

Joining our team, you’ll work with world class and passionate people to focus on unlocking the value of data for our clients through product and service innovation. You will help deliver the holistic value of our broad range of propositions to retailers and brands through intuitive, connected experiences.

What you’ll be working on 

You’ll join our growing Design System team working closely with colleagues in Product, Engineering, Design and Brand to reimagine our product experience, designing for scale and speed.

Key accountabilities

  • Design and develop the design system, including components, patterns, and guidelines.
  • Conduct user research and testing to ensure the design system meets user needs and best practices for accessibility.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for the design system, including code libraries, style guides, and usage examples.
  • Collaborate with engineers and developers to ensure seamless integration of the design system into the development process.
  • Partner with product managers to ensure the design system aligns with product strategy and user flows.
  • Evangelize the value of the design system within the organization and promote its adoption.
  • Assist the Design System Design Manager with managing design work within a product space, ensuring there are clear and solid communications with other teams.
  • Validate designs with end users via common research best practices and techniques.
  • Present designs and validated findings back to team members and stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in design systems and UI design.
  • Mentor and guide junior designers on design system principles and usage.

What we expect from you

  • Ideally a degree in UX Design, Product Design, Human-Centred Design, Graphic Design, Communication Design etc.
  • Previous experience as a UI/UX designer, with at least some experience focused on design systems.
  • Understanding of coding languages and ability to communicate effectively with developers, specifically with regards to user interfaces like HTML, CSS and comparable languages.
  • Experience with component libraries in React or other frameworks.
  • Experience with design systems documentation tools like Storybook.
  • Experience with version control systems such as GitHub.
  • Portfolio showcasing design system projects and their impact.
  • Strong understanding of UI design principles, accessibility guidelines (WCAG, ADA), and user-centred design methodologies.
  • Proven experience in creating and maintaining design systems, including documentation and code libraries.
  • Strong understanding of front-end development principles and collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Experience with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD
  • Strong practice of user-centred design methodologies.
  • Strong storytelling skills in communicating to stakeholders.
  • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and incorporating user feedback into the design process.
  • Expertise in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, interaction design, and other relevant design disciplines.
  • Confidence in planning and conducting ideation sessions and workshops leveraging design thinking methods.
  • Ability to articulate design decisions and strategies to both design and non-design stakeholders.
  • Experience handling iterative design throughout an agile development process.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
