Senior Associate Athletics Director/ Chief Financial Officer

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Senior Associate Athletics Director / Chief Financial Officer oversees, develops and manages the financial operations of a 31-sport Ivy League intercollegiate athletics program that also sponsors a required Physical Education program, as well as recreation, intramural and club sports offerings. Integral to this position is the ability to maintain a strong control environment, which includes compliance with University and NCAA policies and procedures.

The Senior Associate Athletics Director /Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the fiscal oversight of the department and the organization's strategic vision for financial operations and is responsible for implementing short and long-range business planning in concert with the Department's Strategic Plan.

The Senior Associate Athletics Director /Chief Financial Officer oversees a the business, human resources, travel and equipment offices. This position also serves as liaison with outside business partners including auditors, legal counsel, contracted service providers and brokers.

This position is expected to exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to NCAA, Council of Ivy League Presidents, University, and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education rules and regulations

Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Director of Athletics

Responsibilities

  • Oversee budget development, implementation and monitoring and personnel and athletic department operational decisions
  • Management of Human Resources office including employment contracts, human relations issues, annual evaluation process, on-boarding and off-boarding of staff and payroll. Oversight of HR related initiatives including work optimization and departmental culture programs and efforts
  • Implement and oversee departmental budgetary policies and procedures and preparation of annual budgets and review revenues, disbursements, reconciliations and other financial analyses for 31 sports and all administrative units .
  • Maintain and coordinate accurate and timely financial reports, including EADA, and NCAA reports and internal ledgers.
  • Provide routine budget approvals and assist in financial/budget special projects and oversee business office functions, including travel expenses and operations and oversee processing and payment of department bills, cash advances, as necessary (e.g., team travel, official visits, and recruiting trips) and monitoring (in combination with the University's Development Office) gifts directed to the Athletic Department.
  • Provide and maintain a variety of specialized and recurring accounting reports, financial statements, summaries and statistical reports to appropriate department, University, Ivy League, NCAA and governmental entities and supervise and coordinate the extraction of data for financial reports, studies, surveys and projects.
  • Oversight of Technology Resources for athletic department and allocation resources as well as manage relationships with CUIT and outside technology vendors .
  • Oversight of the equipment office and apparel vendor relationship .
  • Serve as the Department's primary contact with University Partners including Budget and Finance staff, Procurement, Risk Management, Legal, Human Resources and Technology in addition to external partners; auditors, vendors and community members.
  • Collaborate with department budget directors on processing and recording of efficient and accurate expenditures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in accounting, business administration or finance.
  • Seven (7) - Nine (9) years related experience required.
  • Demonstrated record of successful planning, budgeting, analyzing and managing financial and human resources required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously required
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful experience in athletics administration, at the NCAA Division I level preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and the general public preferred
