The Role

We seek self-driven and talented engineers to design, develop, and operate high-volume, low-latency systems powering consumer tech products for adMarketplace. The ideal candidate will have experience working on large-scale consumer-facing products and some exposure to AI/ML system integrations. You will be involved in the entire software development lifecycle, from defining requirements to designing, coding, testing, and supporting the product in production. Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and distributed backend components for our consumer tech platform, ensuring high performance and responsiveness.
  • Tackle complex technical challenges related to creating low latency, large-scale systems in a consumer-facing environment.
  • Collaborate closely with product teams, front-end developers, and AI/ML engineers to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Lead technical execution and architectural decisions of various projects, ensuring alignment with our strategic goals.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and oversight to ensure high-quality software development practices.
  • Partner with QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams for seamless integration, testing, and deployment of system components.
  • Continuously improve the system by researching and implementing the latest technologies and best practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of strong hands-on experience in backend development in Java.
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining low latency, high-volume, scalable applications and systems.
  • Familiarity with both relational and non-relational databases.
  • Solid understanding of frontend development and the ability to work closely with frontend engineers.
  • Proficiency in applying SOLID design principles and system design across multiple teams.
  • Strong initiative, ability to drive projects independently, and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional documentation, communication, and troubleshooting abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Spring, Spring Boot or other dependency injection framework.
  • Basic knowledge of AI/ML principles and their application in a consumer product context.
  • Familiarity with Apache Kafka, Vector Search, Apache Solr, Elasticsearch, Redis, LLM agents, and other data processing and caching tools.
  • Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, AWS, and microservices architecture.
  • Experience with profiling and tuning JVM based applications.
  • Agile software development experience.
  • Prior experience in the ad tech or e-commerce industry.
  • Compensation Range: $170,000 - $220,000

  • This range represents the low and high end of the base salary someone in this role may earn as an employee of adMarketplace in the New York office. Salaries will vary based on various factors including but not limited to professional and academic experience; training; associated responsibilities; and other business and organizational needs. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees. Salary decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each hire.
